The Rise Up Movement Child Protection Month – May

Every child deserves to feel safe, protected, and heard. This Child Protection Month, we shine a light on the urgent need to safeguard our children from kidnapping and human trafficking.

Stay Alert. Stay Safe.
Teach children to be aware of their surroundings, avoid strangers, and always stay in safe, trusted spaces.

Know the Red Flags
Not every opportunity is what it seems. Encourage children and teens not to trust offers that sound too good to be true, especially those involving travel or secrecy.

Speak Up
Children must know they have the right to say NO, to feel safe, and to report anything that makes them uncomfortable.

Community Matters
Protecting our children is a shared responsibility. Parents, guardians, schools, and communities must work together to create safer environments.

Remember:
You are not alone. Help is always available.

Growing numbers of domestic violence cases are being reported locally, highlighting the need for stronger support and protection measures.

Between December and the end of March, at least 78 cases linked to domestic violence, intimate partner violence and related incidents were reported across the region – with most victims seeking protection orders for safety.

The Rise Up Movement representative Josha Daniel said the figures highlight the importance of taking measures to fight abuse.

The Rise Up Movement school awareness campaign was held at Windy Heights Primary in the southern region of KwaZulu-Natal, focusing on anti-bullying, teen pregnancy, and overall school safety.

Stakeholders actively engaged with learners through discussions, as well as a question-and-answer session centered on safety precautions.

In addition, 60 packs of sanitary products were donated to the school, acknowledging the challenges many girls face during school hours due to limited access and affordability. Anti-bullying pin badges were distributed as a visible commitment to a “No Bullying” stance.

Informational flyers on human trafficking awareness and safety were also shared, accompanied by meaningful safety dialogues with learners.

Empowering Our communities through knowledge.

During the Easter season, The Rise Up Movement partnered with SAPS iLembe District for a vital awareness campaign "KNOW YOUR RIGHTS & PROTECTION ORDERS."

We know that seeking help can be overwhelming. Many people find themselves at a crossroads, unsure of where to go or how to navigate the system.

The Rise Up Movement goal is to ensure no one is shuffled back and forth between the police and the courts without clear answers.

*Step-by-Step guidance on applying for a Protection Order.
*Clear protocols for obtaining an Interim Order.
*How to effectively report cases to both SAPS and the justice system.

This is an ongoing initiative. We are committed to making justice accessible and ensuring one has the roadmap you need to stay safe.

This Easter Festive Season, let’s celebrate responsibly.
Alcohol abuse remains a major contributor to Gender-Based Violence, placing women, children, and families at risk.

The Rise Up Movement NPO urges our community to make responsible choices and promote a culture of respect, safety, and accountability.

Safety Precautions:

• Drink responsibly and know your limits
• Avoid confrontations and walk away from conflict
• Look out for friends and family members
• Never drink and drive – arrange safe transport
• Report violence or abuse and seek help immediately

Let us work together to break the cycle of violence and protect our communities.

Choose peace. Choose responsibility. Choose safety.

The Rise Up Movement You are not asking for a favour. You are exercising your legal rights.

Navigating the path to safety can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. Here is a quick guide to your rights and the steps to securing a Protection Order:

• Step 1: Report & Act. You have the right to open a criminal charge AND apply for a protection order at any police station or Magistrate Court. Neither can refuse you.
• Step 2: Know the Process. From an Interim Order for urgent safety to the Final Order, the law is designed to protect you through "No Contact" rules and weapon seizures.
• Your Rights at Court/Police: You have the right to apply for FREE, the right to privacy, and the right to have a docket opened.

If the system fails you, don't stay silent. Escalate to a Court Manager, the Senior Public Prosecutor, or report to IPID.
