EFFSC STATEMENT ❤💚🖤
For Immediate Release
13 March 2022
Greetings to the student populace at large
As the EFFSC we are disappointed by the laziness of the SASCO led SRC, who continuously fail students of Fort hare.
There are many issues that need to be resolved by the SRC, and are as follows but not limited.....
WRONG COURSE CODES
It is high time that we hold the SRC accountable, because it is been a while, SRC have never called a meeting so that they come and account to students.
The issue of wrong course codes is affecting students both academically and Financially, but the Sasco led SRC is silent about it, yet students are suffering. The EFFSC fought for this issue of course codes last year and it was resolved at the end of the year (2021)for Bed and Law students.
We do not want history to repeat its self as we all know that history has a tendency to repeat itself. We want to state it very clear that this is not the fault of B com and Lib students . It is the fault of the university that has not sent registration templates on time and also to send registration templates were sent with wrong course codes.
We as EFFSC we demand that students that were funded by NSFAS last year and are eligible to be funded this year must be given their allowances from the coffers of the university while the university is trying fix the issue of wrong course codes with NSFAS.
PGCE students
The PGCE students requested a meeting with the SRC President Mr Snowi Hawker, proposing that if possible the president must mobilise funds for them in terms of allowances and school experience funds because they are not funded by NSFAS and Funza Lushaka is funding science and agriculture only.
We all know that it is possible for SRC to mobilise funds through SRC trust fund, SRC budget and donors but they are failing to do so.
He was requested by students to write an email to the university seeking funds for PGCE students, he said " HE IS NOT A CLOWN HE WILL NOT DO THAT" by saying that it means that students of fort hare are leaderless because as a leader you cannot say that to hungry, desperate and downtrodden students.
As the EFFSC we will continue to hold The president and SRC accountable.
NON -RES
The residence manager declared that the university residences are fully occupied Three weeks back, so that means students that do not have Residences must seek private accommodation, but now there is an issue that their landlords need an upfront deposit and students are unable to pay that amount or deposit.
We as the EFFSC demand that NON RES allowances must be released by the end of this month . We also demand that the University must send the lease forms to students not later than next week.
We further demand that we want a mass meeting not later than friday( 18 March 2022) because the Sasco led SRC has failed us dismally as students and it can't be that it is impossible for them to call a physical mass meeting, because they have made many events such as summer splash and opening prayer and in those events Covid -19 protocols were not observed but in the mass meeting we plead with them that Covid -19 protocols must be observed interms of social distance, sanitizing and wearing of marks because this deadly virus is still with us.
We reject any mass meeting that will be held online precisely because political gatherings are allowed in South Africa, of which Forthare is part of South Africa and it is our constitutional rights to call a mass meeting through SRC but if they are failing we will call it as the EFFSC.
EFFSC Alice campus will not be scared of calling a mass meeting because of threats that are being made to students by Security officials. We will do whatever is necessary to challenge those threats not only in the University but outside the University.
We call upon the SRC namely the president and premier of Alice Campus to call a mass meeting not later than 18 March 2022 so that the SRC can be able to accout to students.
