Today, I joined Congressman Richard Neal and bipartisan members of Congress from Texas to discuss solutions to replace the unfair Windfall Elimination Provision with a fair, proportional formula that treats our teachers, firefighters and police officers equally and bases their Social Security benefits on their work life and career.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in its September Consumer Price Index that core inflation rose to a new 40-year high--which is terrible news for seniors and working families.

Nearly a year after President Biden promised Americans inflation had peaked, core inflation is now the highest on record in his presidency.

There’s no question President Biden’s so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ has failed American workers.

Main Street businesses continue to struggle with higher prices and there's no end in sight. Thanks to President Biden’s bungling of the economy, they will either cut jobs or pass costs on to consumers who are struggling to pay their bills in this cruel economy.

After the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in its August Consumer Price Index that prices rose higher than expectations by 8.3 percent from the previous year, I released the following statement:

"Prices are sky high for food, shelter, and even health insurance, yet over the last month, the Biden Administration raised taxes on American manufacturers, forced low-income workers to pay off the student debt of the well off, and even provided generous subsidies to the wealthy for things ranging from electric vehicles to Obamacare.

"Even former Biden economic advisers warn that to get inflation down further, unemployment will need to rise over the next year. Is that really worth celebrating?"

Amidst Russia’s continued aggression, Ukraine has shown its resilience by resuming production and export of steel products. I’m proud that the first shipment of Ukrainian steel since production resumed has arrived in the United States.

A vessel named “the Alamo” recently unloaded steel pipe from Ukraine at the Port of Houston. This will support good Texas jobs, in both further processing of the pipe and in energy production, while supporting Ukraine’s rebuilding efforts.
