During storms like the ones tonight, it’s worth repeating: when a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued, treat it as if it were a tornado. Straight-line winds can cause catastrophic damage to life and property, and isolated tornadoes can still develop within these storms.

Take warnings seriously, stay weather aware, and be prepared to move to a safe place quickly if conditions worsen.

Cullman County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay Monday, March 16, 2026 due to the overnight threat of severe weather.

EXPLANATION of the storm level indicator system to help understand the severity of weather threats and respond appropriately.

Here’s a breakdown of what each level means, from Level 1 to Level 5:

Level 1: Minimal Impact 🌦️
This level indicates minor weather events that are unlikely to cause significant problems.
**Examples:** Light rain or brief thunderstorms.
**Advice:** Stay informed but no immediate action is needed.

Level 2: Moderate Impact ⛈️
Weather conditions are worsening, and there may be some localized impacts.
**Examples:** Moderate storms with heavier rain and occasional lightning.
**Advice:** Pay attention to forecasts and be prepared for possible disruptions.

Level 3: Significant Impact 🌩️
This level signifies serious weather that could lead to hazardous conditions.
**Examples:** Severe thunderstorms with strong winds and potential flooding.
**Advice:** Take precautions, secure property, and stay indoors if possible.

Level 4: Major Impact 🌪️
Severe weather is expected, with the likelihood of widespread damage and hazards.
**Examples:** Tornadoes or violent thunderstorms.
**Advice:** Implement emergency plans, seek shelter, and follow updates closely.

Level 5: Catastrophic Impact 🌊
This level indicates extreme weather events that pose serious threats to life and property.
**Examples:** Major hurricanes or severe tornado outbreaks.
**Advice:** Follow evacuation orders, have emergency supplies ready, and stay tuned to local authorities.

Understanding these levels helps ensure that you're prepared and safe during stormy weather. Stay alert, and remember, this is just a scale to go by but severe weather can happen at anytime - anywhere.

Weather doesn't clock out at 5 PM.

Nighttime storms are twice as dangerous because they are harder to see and harder to hear. If there's a threat in the forecast:
Turn off your "Do Not Disturb," turn UP the volume on your phone.
Make sure your NOAA Weather Radio is plugged in with extra batteries in case you have to move to your safe place.
Keep your Go-Bag within reach and make sure you have helmets and whistles for every family member.
Place sturdy closed-toe shoes next to your bed.
Check the forecast and know your plan before going to bed.
