Reliable Rides When You Need Them

Attention Bedford, Fulton, and Huntingdon County residents: Getting where you need to go shouldn’t be a struggle. CART is here to help you stay connected to your appointments, errands, and community. Whether you’re heading to a medical visit, the grocery store, or the senior center, CART provides affordable, shared transportation designed for everyday needs.
Service is available on weekdays (excluding holidays), and reservations are required at least one day in advance. Rides are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, so planning ahead is important.

CART is not a taxi service; it’s a community-focused transportation program supported by PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Lottery, helping older adults and individuals with disabilities stay independent and on the move. Call today to schedule your ride: 1-800-333-9004 or 814-635-3653. Learn more: www.hbfaaa.org/cart

Honoring The Heroes Of D-Day

On June 6, 1944, Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy during one of the most significant military operations in history. This D-Day, HBFAAA honors the bravery, sacrifice, and service of the veterans who fought to defend freedom during World War II. Their courage, strength, and resilience continue to inspire generations.

We remember those who served, those who sacrificed, and those who never returned home. Thank you to all veterans for your service.

Some Memories Fade. Love Doesn’t.

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month - a time to recognize the millions of individuals, families, and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. These conditions impact more than memory. They can change daily routines, relationships, communication, and everyday life for both those diagnosed and the people who care for them. That’s why understanding, patience, early support, and compassionate care matter so much.

HBFAAA is proud to support older adults and caregivers throughout Huntingdon, Bedford, and Fulton Counties with resources, guidance, and community connections along the way. No one should have to face this journey alone.

The Farmer’s Market Voucher Distribution program will begin in early June. In Bedford and Huntingdon Counties, residents can begin picking up vouchers on June 10, 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Bedford and Huntingdon Fairgrounds, respectively. In Fulton County, residents may begin picking up their vouchers at the Fulton Area Agency on Aging Office starting June 1 at 9 a.m.

Requirements for the FMV program this year are as follows. You must be 60 or older in the 2026 calendar year, live in the county where you receive your vouchers, and meet the income guidelines. The guidelines are as follows by household size:

1 person: $29,526
2 people: $40,034
3 people: $ 50,542
4 people: $61,050
5 people: $71,558
6 people: $82,066

Everyone’s income in the household counts towards the requirement, even if they are younger than 60.

Seniors living in any of the following do not qualify for Farmer’s Market Vouchers: nursing home facilities, convents, and residential facilities where meals are provided.

If you wish to pick up vouchers for another individual, you must bring a signed proxy form to the distribution location. FMV can not be distributed with a POA form or any other form or with verbal permission. To receive a proxy form, contact or stop into your local senior center or the Area Agency on Aging Office in your area. You may also pick up a 2026 Application Form. This can be completed by the person wishing to obtain vouchers and returned to one of the AAA offices. This will allow the vouchers to be mailed out to the individual. The form must be completed, including a phone number to have vouchers mailed.

Vouchers are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until all vouchers have been allocated. Both husband and wife are eligible to receive a set of vouchers. Vouchers are 5 $5 checks. Checks must be redeemed by November 30, 2026.

Think Before You Act: Protect Yourself from Scams

Imagine this: You get a call saying you owe money for a utility bill or traffic ticket, and there’s a “warrant” for your arrest. The caller claims they can help… if you send gift cards.

Ask yourself: Does this make sense? It sounds scary, but it’s not real - it’s a scam. No legitimate business or law enforcement agency will ever demand payment this way. Scammers use fear and urgency to trick people into acting without thinking.

Here’s what to do when something feels off:
1. Hang up immediately.
2. Contact the actual company or agency yourself to verify your accounts.
3. Never share personal information or send money to strangers.

If it doesn’t feel right, trust your gut and protect yourself.

Keep Moving Forward – Together

National Senior Health and Fitness Day highlights the importance of staying active for independence and well-being. Simple activities like walking or group exercise make a difference. At HBFAAA, programs such as Healthy Steps help participants strengthen muscles, improve balance, and reduce fall risk while connecting with others. Being active supports both physical health and social engagement.

*Always check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program.
