Wow what a weekend at Filey Food Festival thank you for allowing us to have the stall this weekend. Both Branch and Poppy Appeal attended.

Huge thanks to every single person who helped out on both stalls over the weekend.

Thanks also to all those who assisted transporting all the Gazebo and other equipment. Without each persons input we could not be there and raise these amazing amounts:

Branch Bottle Tombola £931.60

Poppy Appeal items and Gin/Whisky raffle sheets. £555.50. The Gin wasnt claimed so will be part of the bottle raffle for Poppy Appeal next food festival.

Thank you to all those visiting and taking a chance on the tombola and raffle and for making donations. 🫡👏👏👏

The members of Filey Royal British Legion would like to express our sincere thanks to the family and friends of Derek Brookes, who recently made a donation of £37 to the Poppy Appeal in his memory following his sad passing.

We are deeply grateful that, during such a difficult time, they chose to support the work of the Poppy Appeal. Donations made in memory of loved ones are always especially meaningful and help us continue providing vital support to veterans, serving personnel and their families.

Our thoughts remain with Derek's family and friends at this sad time.

Thank you for helping to keep Derek's memory alive through your generosity.

6 June – D-Day Anniversary

Today, we pause to remember one of the most significant days in our history.

In the early hours of 6 June 1944, thousands of brave men crossed the English Channel and landed on the beaches of Normandy. They came from every corner of Britain, the Commonwealth and Allied nations, united by a determination to defeat tyranny and restore freedom to Europe.

Many never returned home.

They were sons, brothers, husbands, fathers and friends. Ordinary people who faced extraordinary circumstances with remarkable courage, knowing that the price of freedom would be high.

As we mark the anniversary of D-Day, we remember not only those who stormed the beaches, but also the sailors, airmen, medics, engineers and countless others whose sacrifice helped change the course of history.

The freedoms we enjoy today were secured by a generation who answered the call when it mattered most. Their courage, selflessness and sense of duty continue to inspire us more than 80 years later.

Today, we honour their memory. We give thanks for their sacrifice. And we pledge that their service will never be forgotten.

"At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them."
