The City of Broussard, Louisiana recently participated in a hurricane preparedness tabletop exercise with Lafayette Consolidated Government. Representatives from the Mayor's Office, Public Works Department, Broussard Fire Department, and Broussard Police Department assembled in the Broussard Emergency Operations Center to work together with emergency responders and agency stakeholders in Lafayette Parish. Our team focus was finding solutions to complex problems that could arise before, during, and after a major storm. This exercise helped us identify ways to improve Broussard's emergency preparedness and response.

I want to congratulate House of Broussard for receiving the prestigious AmEx Small Shop grant. This achievement is proof of what is possible when municipal government commits to supporting local businesses and focuses on city-wide improvements. The city of Broussard’s Louisiana Main Street designation has opened the door to grants and other incentives for property owners in our historic area. Special thanks go to our Main Street board for volunteering their time and focusing on a more vibrant downtown.

We are excited to announce a big win for Broussard Main Street! Congratulations to House of Broussard for being awarded a $20,000 grant from the American Express Amex Shop Small Grants Program! House of Broussard is among 500 businesses across the U.S. that were selected for the grant! The goal of the program is to help businesses grow, innovate, and support the local community. This win was made possible as a result of Broussard receiving the Louisiana Main Street designation. House of Broussard is in the heart of downtown, at the intersection of Main Street and Morgan Avenue. Main Street America

On Tuesday, we held a grand opening ceremony for the new Broussard City Hall. We took advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform the old Broussard School, a beautiful and historic building, into city hall offices. We saved millions of taxpayer dollars by opting to repurpose the old school instead of constructing a new building. The expanded space in the new city hall will allow us to continue to provide the highest quality service to our residents and businesses. Now, the centerpiece of downtown Broussard, this building will be preserved for many generations to come.

On Monday, I visited St. Cecilia School to talk to 3rd graders about local government. It was a lively discussion about the functions of city hall, city council, police, fire, and public works. The kids had excellent questions. Thank you Ms. Gilberti for allowing me to explain how city government works to the students.
