I am deeply grateful to The Missing Word for including my story in this powerful book and for giving a name to a grief so many parents carry. This book highlights the stories of ollipsent parents and helps bring awareness to what is means to lose a child.

I lost my son, Jordan, to gun violence. I am honored to have my story included alongside these families who have bravely shared their experiences. Thank you, The Missing Word, for creating a space where our voice can be heard and where our children’s memories can be remembered.

For generations, people of color fought for the right to walk through doors that used to be closed. The Supreme Court struck down segregation in the classroom. Now the Trump Admin wants to call that fight "discrimination" and use it to roll back the very progress we made.

Rebranding discrimination bans to attack diversity efforts isn't justice or equality, it's erasure. We refuse to let anyone erase American history.

Congratulations to Congresswoman Analilia Mejia (NJ-11) and Congressman Everton Blair (GA-13) on being sworn in to the Congressional Black Caucus. Georgia and New Jersey are so lucky to have you. Your leadership will strengthen the work of the CBC and the communities you serve.

Today marks 63 years since the first March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. We honor the leaders, organizers, and those who demanded justice and helped pave the way for the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act. Their fight built the foundation we stand on today.

I remember being there with my family, who were active in the civil rights movement and taught me to participate in the fight for justice. Today, as attacks on voting and civil rights grow, it’s more important than ever to stay committed to protecting access and equality for all.

Dolly Parton embodied the spirit of our country and the best in all of us. Her immense philanthropic work, especially for children’s health and education, will continue to shape generations. From the Imagination Library to her quiet acts of giving, her legacy will endure. She will be sorely missed.

I am deeply saddened by the shooting at my alma mater Virginia State University. All students should be able to focus on their education without the threat of gun violence.

I am praying for those students affected by this senseless act. VSU Trojans are strong and mighty. We will get through this together. I remain committed as ever to keeping all Americans safe.

I am proud to have joined my colleagues across the aisle in introducing the READ Act. This bill strengthens evidence-based Science of Reading instruction to tackle America’s literacy crisis and help every child succeed. Together, we’re improving literacy nationwide.

I am grieving alongside another community terrorized by gun violence. My heart is with the people of Twin Falls, Idaho and I am praying for those who are now dealing with the devastation of losing a loved one.

I will continue to fight for a safer America.

I know all too well that when families have to make tough budget decisions, kids’ sports are often the first to go. No kid should lose the chance to play. That’s why I’m proud my amendment was unanimously adopted in Ed&Workforce to support nonprofits expanding youth athletic access.
