I joined AdvanceCT and some colleagues at Leon de Oro USA in North Branford to celebrate four years in the district! Leon de Oro USA is a great example of the kind of company we should be proud to have right here in Connecticut, manufacturing netting used in sports, golf, construction, industrial applications, and more, all while supporting American manufacturing and local jobs. It was great to see their operation firsthand, meet the people behind the work, and celebrate their continued success. Proud to support Leon de Oro and the important role they play in our local economy!

Yes, the unofficial end of summer is upon us, but there are still so many beach days in our future! And if it’s not the beach, there is much more that this beautiful district has to offer! What’s your favorite spot?

I love a good historic snapshot. Labor Day has always been about more than the unofficial end of summer. It’s about recognizing the people whose hard work keeps our communities moving. The holiday grew out of the labor movement of the late 1800s, when workers (including right here in Connecticut’s manufacturing communities) organized for better wages, safer workplaces and a shorter workday. Those efforts helped build many of the workplace protections we take for granted today.

As someone who has spent much of my life as a small business owner, I know firsthand that our economy is powered by people who show up every day, whether they’re working in a small business, a factory, a classroom, a hospital, an office or caring for their family. And as a state senator, I know there is still work to do to make sure a hard day’s work means a good life.

Today, I’m grateful for those that came before us to fight for working families' rights and for Connecticut’s workers and all they contribute to our communities. Happy Labor Day!

The kids at Kindercare in Guilford really brightened my day when I visited with Representative Rader. Together we learned about the successes of the company and also the challenges we face in early childhood care and education. The Early Childhood Endowment that the legislature passed will be a welcome additional resource for parents with Care For Kids waitlists at 8-13 months. These complimentary funding mechanisms are helping to make life more affordable for working families and also providing our children with an important foundation. We know that this translates into success all along their journey. Grateful to the staff and teachers who make this part of the path such a special stop for these formative years. Special thanks to the Director, Ashely Kane for a fantastic tour and Nikki and Syndey for providing a broader view of the early childhood landscape.

I love a good farmer’s market! I was at the Guilford Farmer’s Market last week to support our local farmers, growers, bakers, makers and small businesses. These markets are such an important part of our communities. They connect us with the people who grow and make our food while keeping dollars in our local economy.

And there are plenty of opportunities to shop local throughout the 12th District:

🌱 Guilford Farmers’ Market — Thursdays, 4–7 PM
🌱 Dudley Farm Farmers’ Market — Saturdays, 9:30 AM–12:30 PM
🌱 Madison Farmers’ Market — Fridays, 3–6 PM
🌱 Stony Creek Farmers’ Market — Sundays, 10 AM–2 PM
🌱 East Haven Farmers’ Market — Sundays, 8 AM–noon

Support local. Shop local. Eat local. ❤️

Last night in Branford, we came together in prayer for the people of Nepal and stood united with the Nepalese community here in Branford and more broadly in Connecticut. Our hearts are with the families grieving loved ones and those still desperately searching for family and friends. We also pray for the search and rescue teams, hydropower workers, and all those working tirelessly to save lives.

Although we are far away, we stand as one with the people of Nepal. Praying those still missing be found, that families can find strength and comfort, and that Nepal can begin to heal and rebuild in the aftermath of this disaster.

If you are able to help, please consider donating to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support relief and recovery efforts. I will post a link in my stories above, but the last slide provides a QR code to this account provided to me by the community last night. 🇳🇵🙏

What a way to kick off this beautiful Saturday at the Killingworth Road Race! It was great to be around the energy of the runners and walkers in support of local missions and community organizations. Lucky winners received a homemade blueberry pie - you can't get any more small town, New England than that! Killingworth is a very special community and neighbors from within and beyond got to experience that today!

See 'em, squash 'em! They may be pretty, but they're doing major damage to our crops.

Women’s Equality Day is a reminder of how far we’ve come and how much work remains. The women who fought for the right to vote showed us what it means to use your voice, and it’s up to all of us to keep speaking up.

Kinda chic to represent the most beautiful district ❤️
