Making a difference, one bag at a time. ❤️

Earlier today, Southern Arizona VA Health Care System was proud to participate in United Way's Days of Caring, Southern Arizona's largest volunteer event. This year, 13 dedicated community volunteers chose to support our Patriot Pantry by assembling food bags for Veterans experiencing food insecurity.

We are grateful for their commitment to serving those who served our nation. Partnerships like these not only help improve the lives of our Veterans, but also strengthen the connections that make our Southern Arizona community so special.

Thank you to United Way and all of today's volunteers for making a meaningful impact on the lives of our Veterans.

Wearing Purple with Purpose 💜

Thank you to all the staff who participated in our group photo in recognition of National Wear Purple Day (Purple Thursday), observed during October's Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

By wearing purple, we stand in solidarity with survivors of domestic violence, honor those whose lives have been impacted, and help raise awareness about the importance of creating safe, supportive communities.

Your participation serves as a meaningful reminder that even small acts of unity can help bring attention to an important cause.

Thank you for standing together, showing your support, and helping spread awareness. Together, we can make a difference!

Today, we recognize National White Cane Awareness Day and extend our sincere thanks to the team from the Southwest Blind Rehabilitation Center for hosting an informational resource table at SAVAHCS.

This day highlights the independence, mobility, and achievements of individuals who are blind or visually impaired while promoting awareness, accessibility, and inclusion. We also appreciate everyone who stopped by to learn more, ask questions, and show their support. Together, we help build a more informed, inclusive, and supportive community.

What you need to know as you approach 65

Timing matters. Your Medicare enrollment window runs from 3 months
before to 3 months after the month you turn 65. Missing it can mean a
lifelong penalty on your Part B premium. If you have missed yours, ask
Social Security about a Special or General Enrollment Period.

VA is its own system. There is no enrollment fee for all Veterans, and no
bill to Medicare or TRICARE For Life for care you receive at VA.

TRICARE For Life fills the gaps. Once active, TRICARE For Life covers deductibles,
copays, and extras that Medicare alone does not, such as routine eye
exams.

Access can change over time. Your VA priority, local wait times, and
health needs may shift. Medicare keeps that door open.

VA and TRICARE For Life work together. Enrolling in one does not cancel the other.
