Honoring the Fallen

Today we pause to acknowledge and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our Nation. Their sacrifice is the foundation of our freedom and inspires our ongoing commitment to support and protect those who serve. We are deeply grateful for their unwavering commitment, selflessness, and the ultimate price they paid to protect our way of life.

As we reflect on the legacy of our fallen heroes, we reaffirm our mission to safeguard the health and readiness of all who wear the uniform. Their courage and sacrifice will forever guide our work and remind us of the true meaning of service.

We remember. We honor. And We will never forget.

This week, the US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM) team loaded up their backpacks and van with food and supply donations for the Annual Canned Food Drive and 3.7 mile Ruck. A total of 1,576 pounds of food and hygiene products were donated and delivered to the local food bank, A Place to Turn.

1,576 pounds is roughly the weight of an adult North American Yak.

Thank you for your donations! Great job

Soldiers may face non-combat-related injuries that interfere with their performance and lethality when in training or on deployment. Leaky gut is a common condition that may occur when the body experiences distress when in austere environments.

The US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM) fights to keep soldiers fighting. Check out our new blog post to learn more: https://usariem.health.mil/index.cfm/media/blog/welcome_to_the_science

So much great information for staying safe in the cold from our cold expert, Dr. John Castellani!

❄️ Stay Safe in the Cold!❄️

Perfect timing ... as we are digging out from this weekend's blizzard and winter continues, DHA R&D - MRDC reminds everyone to prioritize safety during training and operations. Cold weather injuries like frostbite, hypothermia, and trench foot can have serious consequences, but they are preventable with proper preparation.

The US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM) has updated its guidance on cold-weather injuries to ensure Soldiers and leaders have the most accurate and effective tools to stay safe. This updated guidance includes new recommendations for identifying risk factors, improving prevention strategies, and enhancing treatment protocols.

Key Cold Weather tips from USARIEM:
✅ Dress in layers to maintain warmth and prevent overheating.
✅ Stay hydrated—dehydration increases the risk of cold-weather injuries.
✅ Monitor teammates for signs of frostbite or hypothermia.
✅ Plan ahead and adjust training schedules based on weather conditions.

By following these updated guidelines, we can reduce the risk of cold-weather injuries and ensure Warfighters remain ready to meet the mission.
