As the war between the Ukraine and Russia continues, the price of oil shoots up again with a skyrocket price of Php. 5.00 for diesel and Php. 3.50 for gasoline. This will imply to a direct and domino effect to the price of basic commodities. The projected increase in the oil price will worsen the burden carried by the Filipino people day by day.

Bayan Metro Manila calls for the suspension of excise tax and scrapping the VAT for oil and gasoline as what was done in the Manila Water service. Scrapping the additional tax will alleviate the current struggles from the high price of the oil and basic commodities in this time of rebuilding from the current damages caused by the pandemic.

We call on the Filipino people to unite and resist the skyrocketing price of oil and diesel. The government must hear to the call of the people to remove or suspend the huge taxes on oil products such as the excise tax and VAT and subject oil prices to strict regulation in light of market speculation, overpricing and utter lack of transparency in pricing.

It is the primary task of the government to raise the current living conditions of the people and not to put them in extreme case poverty.
