Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) concluded its three-day accreditation with the Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA) last February 6, 2026, under the theme โEnsuring Quality, Raising Standards, Sustaining Service.โ The event showcased the institutionโs unity and continued commitment to quality and continuous improvement of higher education.
The accreditation formally opened on February 4, 2026, as university officials, faculty members, students, and staff welcomed the accreditation team led by Dr. Gloria V. Baรฑas, Supervising and Program Accreditor of BS Accountancy. The opening program was held at the PLP auditorium, attended by the city officials, accreditors, college administrators, faculty members, students, and student leaders.
In his welcome remarks, PLP President Dr. Glicerio M. Maningas described the accreditation as an opportunity for institutional reflection and improvement through collaboration with external evaluators.
โWe must be willing to empty our cup so that others may pour into it their insights, suggestions, and wisdom they bring,โ said Dr. Maningas as he welcomed ALCUCOA in a shared journey of co-creation to strengthen the foundation of the university.
As part of the evaluation process, ALCUCOA conducted a stakeholdersโ conference at the PLP Function Hall last February 5, 2026, second day of the accreditation, gathering the PLP community, involving alumni, parents, industry partners, faculty members, students, and student leaders from the PLP Supreme Student Council (PSSC). Participants shared discussions and feedback on various aspects, including the quality of classroom instruction, competency and character of faculty and staff, clarity of outcome of skills in each program, and the institutionโs facilities, laboratories, libraries, and resources.
Multiple students from the forum called for updated books, materials, and learning resources to support them in their learning and aid for their board examination preparations.
In the forum, the accreditors were impressed that 100% of the students voted highly satisfied when it came to the clarity of outcomes in their program, yet when asked, the students failed to identify the exact program outcomes that includes the knowledge, skills, and competencies graduates should possess upon completing their academic program. In response, Dr. Bartolome Tanguilig III, accreditor for the BS Computer Science program, urged a more rigorous implementation of the Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
The accreditation team also simultaneously visited PLPโs several community extension programs as part of the evaluation process. These included the College of Nursingโs Project Healthy LIFE at Habitat, the College of Educationโs Project Gabay-Aral Tutoring Program at Kanlungan sa Pasig, and the College of Business and Accountancyโs Basic Entrepreneurship Program at Palatiw. Other initiatives visited were Kabataang KawaniโBPLD, the College of Arts and Scienceโs Project Kamalayan at San Joaquin, the College of International Hospitality Managementโs Community Extension Initiative and Tanim Siyudad at Sumilang, the Electronics Engineeringโs Project TechSpark at Buting High School, and the College of Computer Studiesโ Computer Literacy Barangay Information System in Kapasigan.
โYung, mga bataโthey see hope,โ said Dr. Brawner, as the children in the Bahay Kanlungan sa Pasig expressed their gratitude to the institutionโs commitment to provide tutorials and lectures to disadvantaged children.
The accreditation concluded with an exit conference held at the PLP auditorium last February 6, 2026. More than a conclusion, the exit conference is a breakthrough for the Pamantasan. Mr. Mark Yu, SEAOIL Philippines President, a member of the PLP board of regents, and the guest speaker said, โThe best chapter of this university is still being written.โ This is just one of the many steps that the institution will take to achieve its fullest potential. It allows the institution to reflect and gain a clear sense of direction for achieving higher standards of education.
During the conference, accreditors shared their initial impressions and recommendations, praising the professionalism and hospitality of the PLP community.
โIโve been an accreditor since 2007, but this is the first time that there is so much hospitality from all the students and faculty,โ said Dr. Sheelah Era, BS Hospitality Management accreditor.
As part of their impressions and recommendations, the accreditors called for updated library resources, stricter adherence to Outcome-Based Education (OBE), additional full-time faculty, and verification of eligibility requirements.
โAll of us are works in progress,โ President Maningas said during his closing remarks, emphasizing gratitude, unity, and continuous development within the institution.
ALCUCOA commits to helping the PLP in its journey, serving as a strong alliance with one objective of ensuring academic excellence.
โYou are now married to ALCUCOA starting today,โ said Dr. Elizabeth Montero, accreditor of BSED Filipino and English, with a smile. This was a call for a lifelong commitment and partnership to work together for the growth of the institution.
The three-day accreditation concluded on a high note, with joyous dances and songs echoing throughout the auditorium, a fitting mirror of the PLP communityโs unity. From the warm welcome of distinguished guests to listening to every voice that matters, the event highlighted not only the institutionโs commitment to excellence but also the spirit of united effort that defines PLP.
Dr. Michelle Flores, Dean of the College of Nursing, declared in her response message, โWe will live the ALCUCOA way.โ Her statement reflects the commitment of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig administration, faculty, and students to uphold the wisdom and recommendations set by the ALCUCOA accreditation team.
