👉According to Stats Canada, 1 in 4 women face it at work and 1 in 6 men do as well (and underreporting means the real number may be even higher).

The SHIFT Project is building tools and supports to reduce workplace harassment across PEI, from unwanted comments and jokes to more serious violations. Your voice and your experience really does matter.

Although so many people feel alone in it, you most definitely are not alone when it comes to dealing with workplace sexual harassment.

💬When people hear "skilled trades," they often think of carpenters, electricians, or plumbers. But skilled trades in Canada are so much broader than that. They include cooks, hairstylists, welders, automotive service technicians, bakers, heavy equipment operators, and many more.

No matter what trade you work in, you deserve a workplace where you're respected, valued, and safe.

Workplace sexual harassment has no place in any trade. Everyone deserves to learn, work, and build their career free from harassment, discrimination, and harm.

💬The First Step Symposium was filled with moments of connection and optimism, thanks to the incredible group of participants who came together.

The event brought front-line organizations from across the Island into one space for a meaningful day of dialogue and shared learning.

We are still so inspired by the collective effort to build greater clarity around how to support those experiencing workplace sexual harassment!

By bringing together the people doing this work every day, we were able to map existing supports, identify gaps, and strengthen the network of organizations dedicated to supporting workers across PEI.

📈 Islanders have told us they often don’t know where to turn for help with workplace harassment. That’s why we brought front-line organizations together at The First Step Symposium!

Through shared learning, collaboration, and mapping existing supports, participants explored ways to strengthen connections and build a more coordinated network for workers across PEI.

This is only the beginning! Stay tuned for more. We will soon be introducing phase two of this very exciting initiative.🙌

Author and scholar bell hooks once asked: “How do we hold people accountable for wrongdoing and yet at the same time remain in touch with their humanity enough to believe in their capacity to be transformed?”

This question remains deeply relevant today. While harm must be acknowledged and addressed, accountability does not have to mean permanent punishment. It can also create opportunities for learning, growth, and meaningful change.

Scholar Ibram X. Kendi has similarly emphasized the importance of giving people the grace to make mistakes while still holding them accountable. These ideas align with restorative justice approaches that focus on repairing harm, fostering understanding, and supporting transformation.

Advancing human rights means creating workplaces and communities where harm is taken seriously, accountability is meaningful, and people have the opportunity to grow.

As we mark Juneteenth, we invite reflection on how justice can be both accountable and restorative.

This Sunday, June 21, we recognize National Indigenous Peoples Day. It is a day to celebrate the cultures, histories, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

Did you know that June 21 was chosen because it marks the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, which has long held cultural significance for many Indigenous communities?

For generations, Indigenous Peoples have gathered on or around this day to celebrate their heritage, cultures, and connections to the land.

Looking for a way to take part? Check out the National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrations in Charlottetown on Sunday, June 21, starting at 11:00 a.m. at Confederation Landing Park.

A great opportunity to learn, reflect, and celebrate the rich diversity of Indigenous Peoples across Canada.🧡

Kwe,

National Indigenous Peoples Day, is happening this Sunday the 21st at the confederation Landing in Charlottetown.

Everyone welcome to join us in this celebration.

We cant wait to see you there!
