A proposed overhaul of the college general education (GE) curriculum by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is facing mounting criticism from academics and schools, with educators warning that the planned reduction of GE units could dilute the teaching of ethics, philosophy, literature, arts, and Philippine history.

At a public hearing on May 5, CHED defended its draft proposal to reduce GE units from the current 36 units to 18 - 21 units under a “reframed” curriculum focused on outcomes-based education.

The proposal has alarmed faculty members from several universities, including the University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, and Silliman University, prompting them to raise concerns over the possible merging or removal of humanities-related subjects.

CHED officials, however, insisted that the proposed changes are intended to modernize and streamline general education rather than remove important competencies.

Partido State University (ParSU) marks a significant global milestone by breaking into the World’s Universities with Real Impact (WURI) Top 100 Universities Worldwide under Category C1: Representative Research Project, ranking 26th in its first participation in the global ranking.

Clores, ParSU's Vice President for Academic Affairs.

R2R HERPS is a research that establishes the Caramoan Ridge-to-Reef (R2R) Megatransect—spanning highland forests to coastal ecosystems—as a collaborative, community-supported system that enables herpetofaunal biodiversity comparisons, documents new species, trains students, and demonstrates its long-term value as a model for conservation and ecological research in the Philippines.

This project is a collaboration among ParSU-Goa, ParSU-Caramoan, and University of Kansas. It was launched, supported by joint fieldwork, student training, and scholarly exchanges.

This achievement affirms ParSU’s growing presence in the international academic community, reflecting its commitment to research excellence and innovation that generate meaningful, real-world impact in line with its mandates as a state university.

The WURI ranking emphasizes innovation, social responsibility, and practical contributions—areas where ParSU continues to make strides through its programs and initiatives.

Being part of this prestigious list reflects the collective efforts of the University’s faculty, researchers, and partners in advancing knowledge and developing solutions that address community needs.
