Microplastics are not just formed due to large plastic parts, they are also produced on purpose.😔 Due to its hard and shiny surface, they are produced industrially to be used in soaps, peeling products, hair gels, shower gels, toothpastes and cleaning products. Although there are natural alternatives, the use of microplastics is preferred by manufacturers for reasons such as cost-effectiveness.
We can also be exposed to microplastics indirectly. For example, we are exposed to microplastics through coffee drunk in paper cups with plastic inside, water in plastic bottles, cheese wrapped in cling film.
For all these reasons we have to get rid of microplastics, but how❓
Recycling is not a sure and effective solution. Most single-use plastics are not recyclable anyway. Moreover, even if it is recycled, it can turn into an even poorer quality material. Let's highlight that the process itself is an expensive, energy and water-consuming process.
At this point, reducing disposable plastics, which is the main reason for microplastics, or even not using them at all, is the most ideal individual solution. Another solution is to ban single-use plastics, which are banned in the European Union, in Kosovo as well. There are already many signature campaigns for this. However, until this struggle is concluded positively, we should look into our individual consumption habits and lifestyle, and saying "No" to disposables is in our hands.
Don't forget to like and share to raise awareness in more people 😇
What are you doing to avoid exposure to microplastics?
