And that’s a wrap.
During his various farewell visits, Ambassador Cuvelier remarked on what a happy ambassador he had been in Kosovo. Under his tenure, not only did the Belgian representation grow into a full-fledged embassy, but relations between Kosovo and Belgium also reached new heights: two new bilateral agreements, five ministerial visits, numerous high-level exchanges, new Belgian private investments, and a growing interest from the Belgian government in Kosovo.
Thank you, Ambassador Cuvelier, for the three years you spent in Kosovo. Working with you has been a privilege. From your thought-provoking reflections, out-of-the-box thinking and broad expertise, to the personal qualities of respect, kindness, and openness you brought to every interaction, you have left a lasting impression on all of us.
Thank you also to Bernadette Van Quaethoven-Cuvelier for her involvement with both with the international and the Belgian community in Pristina but also in favour of autistic adults in Kosovo.
We wish both of you every success and happiness in this next chapter.

Happy Belgian National Day! 🇧🇪
Today, 21 July, we celebrate Belgium's National Day, a moment to reflect on our history and look with confidence toward the future.
Following the Belgian Revolution of 1830, Belgium declared its independence from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. On 21 July 1831, King Leopold I took the constitutional oath as the first King of the Belgians, marking the birth of an independent, constitutional, and democratic nation.
History has come full circle. What began with separation has evolved into close cooperation. After the Second World War, Belgium 🇧🇪, the Netherlands 🇳🇱, and Luxembourg 🇱🇺 chose partnership over division, creating the Benelux Union , one of Europe's earliest and most successful examples of regional cooperation. This spirit of collaboration later helped pave the way for the European Union, demonstrating that former differences can become the foundation for a shared future.
Today, Belgium remains committed to democracy, solidarity, the rule of law, and international cooperation, values that continue to guide the European Union 🇪🇺.
On this special day, we celebrate our history, our diversity, and the people who continue to shape Belgium's future.
Happy Belgian National Day to all Belgians, wherever you may be!

Last week, the Embassy of Belgium in Pristina visited the Adem Jashari Memorial in Prekaz. This visit provided an opportunity to gain a better understanding of Kosovo’s recent history and the significance that this place of remembrance holds for many citizens of the country.

Remembrance invites not only reflection on the past, but also responsibility: the responsibility to continue building a peaceful, inclusive future founded on dialogue. Belgium supports a multiethnic Kosovo, guided by the principles of the rule of law and respect for fundamental rights, and anchored within the European family. It encourages all stakeholders to engage in good faith in support of the region’s stability and prosperity.

The Embassy thanks its interlocutors for their warm welcome and the interesting exchanges that accompanied this visit.

Ambassador Cuvelier, accompanied by his deputy Justine Lefebvre, was received by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Glauk Konjufca, for a meeting that provided an opportunity to discuss the strengthening of the bilateral cooperation, the internal political situation and Kosovo's Euro-Atlantic integration process. Ambassador Cuvelier thanked Minister Konjufca for the excellent cooperation between his ministry and the Belgian Embassy, and more generally for the support provided by the Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs to foreign embassies in the performance of their duties.

Bernadette Cuvelier-Van Quaethoven, the ambassador's wife, contributed to the creation of an activity center for adults with autism and special needs in Pristina, notably by sharing her professional experience in this field and by organizing a study visit to Belgium. This center, which opened on June 1, is the first of its kind in Kosovo. Ambassador Cuvelier visited the center and met with the leaders of the associations carrying out the project, the staff, and beneficiaries. A room in the center is dedicated to Bernadette Van Quaethoven in gratitude for her support.
