Free Movement of Goods Kosovo

The FMG project is to develop Quality Infrastructure, Market Surveillance and Consumer Rights in order to improve production processes and increase quality and safety of products and services. This EU funded Project is designed to provide technical assistance to the main actors participating to the implementation of free movement of goods, particularly those related to the safety of products and t

he Quality Infrastructure. The Project will assist the national Quality Infrastructure bodies for Standardization and Accreditation to join the relevant European and international organizations and to complete their portfolio of services. The Technical Assistance Team will also support the Kosovo Metrology Agency (KMA) for increasing its capacity in order to meet the present and future needs of the local economy in industrial and legal metrology. This term relates to the fields of metrology, standardization and accreditation as well as to conformity assessment, including certification. Supporting Quality Infrastructure and free movement of goods is at the core of the project. Overall, the assistance will be transferred through provision of expert support in the alignment and enforcement of the Kosovo legislation and practices on the free movement of goods along the EU established principles and rules. It will provide necessary training to professionals and much needed awareness of this topic to the general public. Overall Objective
The overall objective of the Project is to improve Kosovo’s business environment and its competitiveness in international markets by reducing barriers to trade. Purpose
The purpose of the project is to improve the Quality Infrastructure System of Kosovo, including market surveillance and consumer protection, in line with the EU requirements. Beneficiaries

The Project started on 7th October 2014 and has duration of 24 months. Expected results
1) Conformity assessment procedures are adopted in accordance with the requirements of the EU directives.
2) EU Standards adopted in market areas, which lack standardization.
3) More accredited conformity assessment bodies operating in the domestic market.
4) Modern and functional laboratories of metrology in place handled by properly trained staff.
5) Increased awareness of the importance of standards, accreditations and metrology among Kosovo producers.
6) Consumer Protection department is better organized and trained.
7) Market surveillance is trained at all levels in accordance with the best practices of the EU member countries.
8) A functioning database for (dangerous) products is being circulated in the domestic market.
