Pleased to welcome Geoscience Australia to Samoa for the maintenance of the Global Navigation Satellite System ( ) station as part of the Climate and Ocean Support Program in the Pacific ( ). This visit highlights Australia’s ongoing commitment to building technical capacity in Samoa and ensuring that important climate and geodetic monitoring infrastructure continues to provide accurate, reliable data.

GNSS stations across the Pacific are positioned near sea level monitoring stations, to help scientists understand how land and sea levels are changing together over time and inform countries’ decision-making and preparedness for natural hazards such as earthquakes and tsunamis.

COSPPac works closely with Samoa’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Samoa Sāmoa Meteorological Service , to monitor, analyse and communicate climate and ocean information that strengthens climate and disaster resilience across the region. The program is delivered through a partnership between the Australian of Meteorology Geoscience Australia, Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme - SPREP, Pacific-Community-SPC, and Earth Sciences New Zealand.

🔐🇼🇸 Strengthening Samoa's security, together 🇦🇺
Australia was proud to join the Government of Samoa and the Samoa Police, Prisons & Corrections Services yesterday for the opening of two important new facilities supported through the Samoa-Australia Police Partnership.

At Faleolo, the refurbished Airport and K9 office will strengthen efforts to combat illicit drugs and transnational crime at Samoa's border. At Faleata, the expanded Assets and ICT Warehouse will enhance the Samoa Police's ability to manage critical equipment, strengthen communications systems, and improve cyber resilience.

These investments build on more than 15 years of cooperation between Samoa and Australia to support safer communities, stronger institutions, and effective law enforcement across our Blue Pacific region.

Australia remains committed to working alongside Samoa to address evolving security challenges, from transnational crime to cyber threats, and to building a secure, resilient and prosperous Pacific.

Poutasi showing the best of Samoa 🇼🇸

William Barton, Aunty Delmae Barton and Tia Isaiah B Brunt were warmly welcomed to the Poutasi Development Trust with hymns and Siva Samoa!

In return Poutasi heard the unique and complementary sounds of the Australian didgeridoo and the Samoan fagufagu.

Curious to know what the instruments sound like together? Make sure to come down to the free public concert Thursday 30 July at 7pm at the Samoa Arts and Culture centre!

Savai’i communities upskill on feral pig trapping 🐗🎓

Hansell Supplies recently organised community training and awareness on effectively trapping feral pigs 🤝 in partnership with the Market Development Facility (MDF) 🇦🇺 and Samoa’s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries - Samoa (MAF) 🌱.

Training Savai’i farmers 👨‍🌾👩‍🌾, district councils 🏛️ and students 🎒 supports the Samoan Government’s efforts to reduce the damage inflicted by feral pigs 🐗 on Samoa’s agriculture sector 🌾.

The Australian High Commission 🇦🇺 has proudly supported MDF’s efforts alongside MAF, SROS and other partners 🤝 to support feral pig management, including through a pig trapping trial ✅.

Hansell trained participants on effectively deploying and managing their Pig Brig traps 🪤. These are proving to be a successful method for capturing feral pigs in Samoa 🐗✅.

🏛️🤝 Building strong organisations starts with strong systems

As part of ensuring sustainability of its support to Samoa 🇼🇸, Australia 🇦🇺 brought together representatives of its Civil Society partners through the Tautua program 🤝; Women in Business Development Inc., Samoa Women's Association of Growers, Samoa Fa'afafine Association, Samoa Victim Support Group, SENESE Inclusive Education Support Services, Samoa Family Health Association, Nuanua O le Alofa Disability Advocacy Organization, and Samoa Spinal Network for a dedicated training session on Procurement 📋, Fraud & Corruption Prevention 🛡️, and Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment ✅.

The session facilitated meaningful dialogue 💬 with participants openly sharing experiences and candid insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by their organisations and communities 🌱. Discussions also highlighted lessons learnt 📚 and practical approaches to strengthening procurement practices, managing fraud and corruption risks 🛡️ and preventing sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment ✅.

Together, these discussions contribute to stronger organisational governance 🏛️, enhanced accountability 🤝, and safer, more effective service delivery 🌟 for the communities they serve.
