The British High Commission was pleased to meet with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Samoa yesterday. His Excellency Andrew Nethercott, British High Commissioner to Samoa, accompanied by Deputy High Commissioner Daniel Garlick, held a productive discussion with the UNDP team on shared priorities and opportunities for collaboration.

The meeting highlighted the strong partnership between the United Kingdom and UNDP in supporting sustainable development, good governance, resilience, and inclusive economic growth across Samoa and the Pacific region.

Courtesy Visit to Vodafone Samoa

The British High Commissioner in Apia was pleased to visit Vodafone Samoa and meet with the team at their Head Office.

As a globally recognised telecommunications company with British roots, Vodafone continues to play an important role in connecting people, businesses, and communities across Samoa and the wider Pacific. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about Vodafone Samoa’s work, exchange views on shared priorities, and strengthen the relationship between the British High Commission and Vodafone Samoa.

Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship

How to Apply?

Candidates must apply using the CSC’s online application system which can be found on the CSC website: https://cscuk.fcdo.gov.uk/.../scholarships-and-fellowships/

Each scholarship has a ‘How to apply’ section which will have information and guidance on the application process and the link to the online application system. The CSC is unable to accept any applications that are NOT submitted via the online application system or after the closing date listed above.

CSC Eligibility Criteria for Commonwealth Master’s and PhD Candidates

To apply for these scholarships, you must:
1. Be a Samoa citizen or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
2. Be available to start your academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2026
3. By September 2026, hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honours standard, OR a second-class degree (2:2) and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree). The CSC would not normally fund a second UK Master’s degree. If you are applying for a second UK Master’s degree, you will need to provide justification as to why you wish to undertake this study
4. Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship
5. Provide full transcripts detailing all your higher education qualifications including to-date transcripts for any qualifications you are currently studying (with certified translations if not in English) – uploaded to the online application system
6. Provide references from at least two individuals.

Deadline: Please submit and upload your application to the CSC online portal and send a copy to the Public Service Commission office visa email [email protected] by Tuesday 20th October 2026.

Courtesy Call with the Samoa Law Reform Commission

The British High Commissioner to Samoa was pleased to pay a courtesy call on the Samoa Law Reform Commission, reaffirming the United Kingdom's commitment to supporting good governance, the rule of law, and strong democratic institutions in Samoa.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the important work of the Law Reform Commission in reviewing and modernising legislation to meet Samoa's evolving needs. Discussions also explored shared interests in strengthening legal frameworks, promoting access to justice, and supporting effective and transparent public institutions.

The British High Commissioner expressed appreciation for the Commission's ongoing efforts to contribute to Samoa's legal and governance development and looked forward to continued engagement and cooperation on areas of mutual interest.

The British High Commission values its partnership with Samoa and remains committed to working alongside key institutions to support inclusive, resilient, and accountable governance.

Strengthening Partnerships for Human Rights in Samoa 🇼🇸🇬🇧

The British High Commissioner to Samoa, His Excellency Andrew Nethercott, was pleased to meet with Ombudsman Vui Clarence Nelson on 15 September for a productive and engaging courtesy call.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss shared priorities and explore areas for future collaboration, including the protection of children in digital spaces, addressing climate change, and tackling family and domestic violence.

The United Kingdom remains committed to working with partners across the Pacific to promote and protect human rights, strengthen democratic institutions, and support inclusive and resilient communities.

We look forward to continuing our close engagement with the Office of the Ombudsman of Samoa and building on our shared commitment to advancing human rights for all.
