On Monday, we bid farewell to His Excellency Gareth Hoar, the British High Commissioner, and his family as he concludes his three-year term serving Samoa.

Throughout his time in Samoa, Gareth has been a valued partner and friend, strengthening ties between Samoa and the United Kingdom and supporting key initiatives that have benefited many communities. His leadership, dedication, and genuine respect for Samoan culture have made a lasting impression.

He will be fondly remembered not only for his work, but for the friendships he has built and the warmth he has shown to those around him.

As he departs, we extend our sincere appreciation for his service and wish him all the very best in his next chapter. Samoa will always welcome you back.

Speaking at the launch, British High Commissioner Gareth Hoar congratulated Samoa on its continued leadership in addressing climate change and strengthening its future:

The British High Commission in Apia was proud to join the Journalist Association of Samoa (JAWS) and BBC Media Action in celebrating World Press Freedom Week and the 50th anniversary of Samoaโ€™s national media body.

As part of the week-long activities, BBC Media Action, in partnership with JAWS, facilitated the Strengthening Women in Media: From Dialogue to Action event โ€” a follow-up discussion that celebrated the contributions of women in media and allies who have helped shape Samoaโ€™s media landscape.

His Excellency High Commissioner Gareth Hoar delivered remarks recognising the vital role of journalists in strengthening open, transparent societies and highlighting the contributions of media professionals across Samoa
