SQA 7th PSET Conference – Apia, Samoa

The Samoa Qualifications Authority hosted the 7th Post School Education and Training Conference, bringing together regional partners to discuss the future of skills, education, and employment. This was the first regional convening of the PSET Conference by the Samoa Qualifications Authority - SQA.

Under the theme “Future Ready Samoa: Empowering Skills, Innovation and Industry Partnerships” discussions focused on strengthening partnerships between education providers and
industry to better prepare graduates and close skills gaps.

The PPIU was honoured to contribute, with Dr. Alisi Kautoke highlighting how PACER Plus, through its Labour Mobility and Trade in Services work programme, can support job-ready graduates by strengthening industry partnerships and skills development across the Pacific.

PACER Plus continues to support skills for employment, private sector development, and inclusive economic growth - including labour mobility pathways that expand employment opportunities, partnerships that respond to workforce needs, and better utilisation of trade and economic opportunities under PACER Plus. Looking ahead, priorities include stronger industry engagement, expanded apprenticeships, improved workforce planning, and better skills recognition.

🌍 International Day of Family Remittances 2026

Our Trade in Goods Advisor, Alipate, had the privilege of representing PPIU at this year's International Day of Family Remittances, hosted by the United Nations and partner agencies.

The event brought together a diverse and influential group of stakeholders — including DFAT, MFAT, ILO, IOM, government departments, the Central Bank, commercial banks, money transfer operators, the Samoa Bureau of Statistics, the Labour Sending Unit, Workers' Unions, private sector groups, and NGOs — all united around one of the Pacific's most vital economic lifelines: remittances.

Discussions covered the full remittances journey:
✅ Earning — how workers create opportunities abroad
💸 Sending — making transfers safe, accessible, and trusted
🏡 Household & Community Impact — the real difference felt at home
📈 National Development — turning remittances into broader prosperity
🔮 Future Systems — building resilience and sustainability for the long term

PPIU shared its work across trade, investment, and access to labour markets (ALM) — because remittances don't happen in isolation. They are deeply connected to trade and labour mobility frameworks like PACER Plus.

When Pacific workers earn abroad and send money home, they are living proof of why PACER Plus matters: stronger trade ties, regulated and safe labour pathways, and the movement of people that drives real economic development across the region.
