The AUR Research Group, formed within the ARC Progra at VGU, will organize a peer-learning seminar every two months in 2026.

Part of the seminar is a series of Research Methodologies Lectures presented by international emerging scholars to introduce methodologies rest on the customary practice of spatial reading, analyzing, and designing.

The first lecture is named "Interpretive Mapping & Design Research: Projects for Ho Chi Minh Metropolis" by Dr. Arch. Nguyen Minh Quang, Lecturer at ARC Program, VGU.

GREEN SUMMER DESIGN WORKSHOP 2026 – A SUMMER OF CREATIVITY AND INSPIRATION!

After three days of learning, exploring, and designing, Green Summer Design Workshop 2026 has officially come to an end, leaving students with valuable knowledge, fresh ideas, and memorable experiences.

Under the theme “Architectural and Landscape Design for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Around Ho Chi Minh City Metro Stations,” the workshop provided students with an opportunity to learn from experts, conduct field studies, exchange ideas, and develop creative design solutions for a more sustainable and livable urban future.

With students from different universities working together in mixed teams, the workshop created a dynamic environment for collaboration, knowledge sharing, cultural exchange, and creative problem-solving.

Congratulations to all the students for your enthusiasm, creativity, teamwork, and dedication throughout the workshop! Green Summer Design Workshop 2026 chính thức khởi động!!!
Hôm nay (07/08/2026), sinh viên ngành kiến trúc (ARC) – Trường Đại học Việt Đức (VGU) cùng với sinh viên kiến trúc đến từ nhiều trường đại học trong và ngoài nước đã tham dự buổi giảng đề cuộc thi thường niên "Green Summer Design Workshop 2026" - "Xưởng thiết kế mùa hè xanh lần thứ V, 2026" được tổ chức tại Trường Đại học Bách khoa – ĐHQG-HCM (HCMUT) - cũng chính là đơn vị đăng cai chính thức của chương trình năm nay.
Với chủ đề "Architectural and Landscape Design for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Around Ho Chi Minh City Metro Stations", cuộc thi là cơ hội để các bạn sinh viên cùng học hỏi, trao đổi chuyên môn, khảo sát thực tế và phát triển các ý tưởng thiết kế sáng tạo hướng đến đô thị bền vững.
Xưởng thiết kế mùa hè xanh lần thứ V diễn ra trong 3 ngày, từ ngày 7/8/2026 đến ngày 9/8/2026, với sự góp mặt của các chuyên gia trong và ngoài nước - mang đến những bài giảng đầy bổ ích, cũng như sự cố vấn của ban chuyên môn giàu kinh nghiệm, được kỳ vọng sẽ đem đến một sân chơi chất lượng tốt cho các em sinh viên kiến trúc.
Bên cạnh đó, sinh viên các trường cũng được phân nhóm cùng nhau và có cơ hội được hợp tác, làm việc chung để tăng cường tính tương tác giữa các trường cũng như tạo cơ hội để các em được học hỏi lẫn nhau.

Green Summer Design Workshop 2026 Officially Kicks Off!
Today (August 7, 2026), students from the Bachelor's Program in Architecture (ARC) at Vietnamese-German University (VGU) officially joined the Green Summer Design Workshop 2026, hosted by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), alongside students from universities across Vietnam and abroad.
Under the theme "Architectural and Landscape Design for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Around Ho Chi Minh City Metro Stations," the workshop provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn from one another, exchange ideas, conduct field studies, and develop innovative design solutions that contribute to a more sustainable urban future.
Now in its fifth edition, the three-day summer design workshop takes place from August 7 to 9, 2026, featuring lectures by leading national and international experts, as well as guidance and mentoring from experienced academic and professional advisors.
To encourage interdisciplinary and intercultural collaboration, participants from different universities are assigned to mixed teams, creating a dynamic environment for learning, teamwork, and cultural exchange.

🎼 HARMONY – BẢN GIAO HƯỞNG CỦA GỖ KHỐI VÀ SÁNG TẠO

Không chỉ là một công trình, HARMONY là dấu ấn mạnh mẽ cho kiến trúc bền vững, nơi vật liệu gỗ khối (mass timber) được tôn vinh một cách trọn vẹn nhất.

Bước vào bên trong, bạn sẽ choáng ngợp bởi không gian mở với phòng trưng bày nghệ thuật, quán cà phê ấm cúng và các khu vực chức năng hiện đại. Nhưng có lẽ, linh hồn của công trình nằm ở khán phòng 300 chỗ ngồi cùng hệ thống cột chịu lực với hình dáng gợn sóng đầy sáng tạo. Sự kết hợp giữa những thanh dầm chữ A và chữ V không chỉ đảm bảo kết cấu vững chắc mà còn là phép ẩn dụ cho những nốt nhạc nhỏ hợp thành một bản giao hưởng lớn, tạo nên sự hài hòa (Harmony) cho toàn bộ thiết kế.

🌱 When factories are no longer enclosed “fortresses”!

🧩 More than just a single building, the project utilizes a modular mass timber frame system, extracting logic from the existing factory and reinterpreting it through three main structural frameworks (connecting tubes, anchoring elements, and adaptive grids). This system is flexible across various scales and programs.

♻️ Applying "Design for Disassembly" with mortise and tenon joints and hidden steel plates, the modules can be easily repositioned, upgraded, expanded, or dismantled. Lifespan is extended across multiple cycles: from community centers and disaster shelters to educational and training spaces.

𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 & 𝐂𝐀𝐃 𝐈𝐈 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠.
Arc 2024 students investigate a co-housing design to respond to the global and local housing crisis under the guidance of Dr. Arch. Nguyễn Minh Quang, Dr. Arch. Lê Thị Thúy Hằng, Ma. Arch. Bum Suk Ko, and M. Sc. Arch. Phan Thanh Tú Tuấn. The world population is predicted to be approximately 10 billion in 2050. And family patterns are becoming more diverse and now include young singles, single elderly people, childless couples, and couples with one or two kids. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has radically changed the human daily routine after the stay-at-home policy. It has required the rearrangement of housing layout, and people have realized that study and work in the digital era can probably be done at home. However, the need for social interaction is still important. Besides, other important aspects comprise natural ventilation and sunlight, prioritized workspaces over guest zones, internal recreational areas, and flexible home layout through new technologies for healthier home environments. Home gardens are becoming a growing trend for achieving self-sufficiency in food. Thus, the future of housing design should focus on proxemics and privacy aspects of members dwelling in the same home. The hypothesis is that we need more housing that can accommodate more types of social structure, but consume less land.
The context of the studio is in Binh Duong, a satellite urban area of Ho Chi Minh City that is heavily industrializing and urbanizing. Agriculture and rubber plantations have occupied this area. The idea is to really use the existing landscape pattern and plots as a base to develop a new co-housing typology that can accommodate three family types (four people, a couple, and a single) with communal spaces (a shared kitchen, working space, and a garden) within a plot of 6 x 30 m.
The Architectural design/CAD II Module was combined with the Research in Architecture Module to help students not only design based on the context but also discover the foundation theory for their design. Students explore the design layout and strategies with case studies, review other scholars' studies on the co-housing topic in a scientific way to understand the problems and solutions deeply.
The outcome is evaluated with valuable comments by the experienced guest critics: M. Sc. Arch. Nguyen Nhat Linh (UX Space), Ma. Arch. Tran Tuan Anh (VGU), Ma. Arch. Nguyen Linh Tam (VGU), Ma. Arch. Tran Tuan Nghi (VGU), and Dipl.- Eng. Arch. Thu Alexander Quynh (VGU).

Thiết kế Kiến trúc & CAD II: Nhà ở Hậu Đại dịch

Với bối cảnh dân số thế giới được dự đoán sẽ đạt khoảng 10 tỷ người vào năm 2050. Sinh viên Arc 2024 nghiên cứu thiết kế nhà ở cộng đồng nhằm giải quyết cuộc khủng hoảng nhà ở toàn cầu và địa phương dưới sự hướng dẫn của TS. KTS. Nguyễn Minh Quang, TS. KTS. Lê Thị Thúy Hằng, ThS. KTS. Bum Suk Ko và ThS. KTS. Phan Thanh Tú Tuấn. Hiện nay, các mô hình gia đình ngày càng đa dạng, bao gồm người trẻ, người già độc thân, các cặp vợ chồng không con và các cặp vợ chồng có một hoặc hai con. Sau đại dịch Covid-19, lối sống và làm việc của mọi người cũng thay đổi, những khu vườn và không gian mở ngày càng được tích hợp nhiều hơn vào không gian sống. Giả thuyết đặt ra là chúng ta cần nhiều nhà ở hơn có thể đáp ứng nhiều loại cấu trúc xã hội hơn nhưng lại tiêu thụ ít đất hơn.
Đồ án lấy bối cảnh ở Bình Dương, khu vực đô thị vệ tinh của trung tâm thành phố Hồ Chí Minh đang có tốc độ công nghiệp hóa và đô thị hóa nhanh. Phần lớn cảnh quan vẫn là những thửa nông nghiệp và rừng cao su. Đề bài đặt ra là đồ án phải tận dụng cấu trúc cảnh quan hiện hữu để làm nền tảng cho việc phát triển các loại hình nhà ở cộng đồng mới nhằm đáp ứng nhu cầu đồng thời của một gia đình bốn người, một cặp đôi và một người độc thân cùng chia sẻ không gian bếp, làm việc và sân vườn trong một lô đất có kích thước 6 x 30 m.
Đồ án Thiết kế kiến trúc /CAD II được kết hợp với môn Nghiên cứu kiến trúc nhằm giúp sinh viên không chỉ thiết kế dựa trên bối cảnh mà còn khám phá lý thuyết nền tảng cho thiết kế của mình. Sinh viên tìm hiểu bố cục và chiến lược thiết kế thông qua các việc nghiên cứu các dự án tham khảo về chủ đề nhà ở cộng cư theo phương pháp khoa học để có thể hiểu sâu sắc các vấn đề và giải pháp.

Under the guidance of an international teaching team consisting of Prof. Bruno De Meulder, Prof. Kelly Shannon, Dr. Arch. Nguyễn Minh Quang, Dr. Lê Thị Thúy Hằng, and Dr. Phạm Thái Sơn, ARC2023 students dive into an intensive hands-on exploration of the urban design module. Rather than viewing development sites as a blank slate (tabula rasa), this studio challenges students to treat the territory of Binh My (Ho Chi Minh City) as a tabula plena: a "full table" rich with centuries of custom, complex water dynamics, and existing patterns of production.
The studio will test alternative designs for the program (including the foreseen densities) envisioned in the CMIA project, while endorsing the ambition to create an integrated regional urban center. The studio will investigate alternative development models for 9 areas (250 x 500 meters, 12.5 hectare) which are part of the area. Each site parcel is perpendicular to the Saigon River, has tributary water bodies connected to the river and varying degrees of existing settlement.
In the weeks leading up to the final exhibition, students worked intensely across scales (from individual living space models at a 1:50 scale to urban areas at a 1:1000 scale) to experiment with and develop logical thinking about high-density spaces. Different types of individual living spaces were combined and arranged to ensure a balanced transition between closed and open spaces, private and public areas, settlements and landscapes.

Dưới sự dẫn dắt của đội ngũ giảng viên quốc tế gồm GS. Bruno De Meulder, GS. Kelly Shannon, TS. KTS. Nguyễn Minh Quang, TS. Lê Thị Thúy Hằng và TS. Phạm Thái Sơn, các sinh viên khóa ARC2023 đã được trải nghiệm học phần thiết kế đô thị đầy chuyên sâu. Thay vì nhìn nhận các khu vực phát triển như một mảnh giấy trắng (tabula rasa), đồ án thử thách sinh viên phải tiếp cận vùng đất Bình Mỹ (Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) như một tabula plena: một "mặt bàn đầy ắp", nơi dòng chảy lịch sử đan xen cùng những truyền thống lâu đời, hệ thống thủy văn phức tạp và các mô hình sản xuất hiện hữu.
Đồ án sẽ thử nghiệm các phương án thiết kế thay thế cho chương trình (bao gồm cả mật độ xây dựng dự kiến) được hình dung trong dự án CMIA, đồng thời ủng hộ tham vọng tạo ra một trung tâm đô thị khu vực tích hợp. Đồ án sẽ nghiên cứu các mô hình phát triển thay thế cho 9 khu vực (250 x 500 mét, 12,5 ha). Mỗi khu vực đều vuông góc với sông Sài Gòn, có các nhánh sông đổ vào và mức độ dân cư hiện hữu khác nhau.
Những tuần trước buổi triển lãm cuối kỳ, sinh viên làm việc với cường độ cao và nhiều tỉ lệ không gian khác nhau (từ mô hình không gian ở cá nhân tỷ lệ 1:50 lên đến quy hoạch tổng thể vùng tỷ lệ 1:1000), để thử nghiệm và xây dựng tư duy logic về không gian mật độ cao. Các loại hình không gian ở khác nhau được kết hợp và sắp đặt để đảm bảo sự chuyển tiếp hợp lý và cân bằng giữa không gian đóng và mở, riêng tư và công cộng, định cư và cảnh quan.

[ARC2024] MATERIAL STUDIES – WHEN MATERIALS FIND THEIR VOICES IN ARCHITECTURE

Under the guidance of M.Sc. Arch. Nguyen Hoai Vu and M.Sc. Arch. Nguyen Vo Van Lich, students engage with Material Studies through an entirely new perspective: materials are no longer theoretical data on paper, evolving into a language that communicates design possibilities and fosters a deep connection between structural sustainability and spatial aesthetics.

This module provides a high-performance process of instruction, which perfectly synthesizes the concept of practical crafting, empirical field experience, and comprehensive research capabilities. [ARC2024] MATERIAL STUDIES – KHI VẬT LIỆU CẤT TIẾNG NÓI TRONG KIẾN TRÚC

Dưới sự dẫn dắt của ThS.KTS. Nguyễn Hoài Vũ và ThS.KTS. Nguyễn Võ Vạn Lịch, các bạn sinh viên đã bước vào môn học Material Studies với một tư duy hoàn toàn mới: vật liệu không chỉ là những thông số kỹ thuật khô khan trên trang giấy, mà còn là "ngôn ngữ" để hiện thực hóa ý tưởng, là sự giao thoa giữa cấu trúc bền vững và thẩm mỹ không gian.

Môn học mang đến một lộ trình học tập toàn diện khi kết hợp nhuần nhuyễn giữa tư duy chế tác, trải nghiệm thực tế và kỹ năng nghiên cứu chuyên sâu. Qua chuỗi hoạt động từ thực hành phòng thí nghiệm cho đến các chuyến đi thực địa, sinh viên đã gặt hái được những bài học trực quan giá trị: thấu hiểu sâu sắc về đặc tính bề mặt, trọng lượng và giới hạn chịu lực của chất liệu qua việc tự tay chế tác; tiếp thu các giải pháp thi công, cấu tạo hệ tường ngoài thực tế

Môn học khép lại không chỉ bằng những điểm số, mà là tư duy vật liệu sắc sảo, tinh thần phối hợp đồng đội ăn ý và một cái nhìn thấu suốt từ bản vẽ ra đời thực.

Chỉ còn chưa đầy 24h nữa, Festival Sinh viên Kiến trúc toàn quốc 2026 sẽ chính thức diễn ra. Các công tác chuẩn bị đang dần hoàn tất, từ không gian tổ chức đến nội dung học thuật, sẵn sàng cho một kỳ Festival với nhịp độ làm việc cao và sự tham gia của nhiều trường trên cả nước.

Song song với đó, chương trình năm nay nhận được sự đồng hành của các đơn vị tài trợ và truyền thông, góp phần quan trọng vào việc đảm bảo chất lượng tổ chức cũng như lan tỏa thông tin đến cộng đồng.
