Let last nights marine tragedy be a reminder to all whom travel by boat or dinghy at night that they need to SLOW down and make sure your running lights are visible to other boaters. A nav light on your engine which you sit in front of to steer blocking the light does not work. Nav lights on the console and then people sitting in front of the lights DON’T work.
Please be safe at night people.
God speed Shawn. ~May you have fair winds and following seas from here till eternity.~

Huge congratulations to Water Island! 👏🚑

Over the past few months, St. John Rescue has had the incredible opportunity to travel to Water Island and provide EMR training to members of their community.

We are proud to share that every participant successfully passed both their psychomotor and classroom portions of the course yesterday!

This is a major accomplishment and a big step forward in strengthening emergency response capabilities on Water Island. We couldn’t be more proud of the dedication, hard work, and commitment shown by each individual.

Congratulations again, Water Island EMRs — your community is in great hands! 💪🚨

6/1/25 - HURRICANE SEASON BEGINS TODAY AND ENDS NOVEMBER 30TH

Welcome to the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season and our 15th year tracking storms to keep you informed without all the hype!

As you have seen from our pre-season posts, this season is expected to produce an above-average number of storms due to the warm waters in the Atlantic Basin and the lack of El Niño in the eastern Pacific.

No activity is expected in the short term. The latest 7-day NHC outlook shows nothing cooking at the moment. When we have our first tropical storm, the name will be Andrea.

The GFS model has been showing some possible development around June 7th, but it has no support from the other models at this time. We will let you know when the first Atlantic system may form.

This is from the App Hurricane Tracker
I recommend you get this app for season.

**HURRICANE SEASON ***ONLY 2 months away. Please start to get prepared now so we can have a safe 2025 season.

4/3/25 - CSU PREDICTS ANOTHER ABOVE AVERAGE ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON

Colorado State University has released its initial forecast for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season and they are predicting another above average season. The forecast calls for 17 named systems and 9 hurricanes with 4 of them becoming major.

This year’s outlook isn’t quite as bullish as last year, but it is significant as a forecast of 9 hurricanes is tied for the second highest amount predicted in the last 30 years. Last year, 11 hurricanes were predicted and the season ended up with 11 hurricanes.

The CSU forecast is intended to provide a best estimate of activity in the Atlantic during the upcoming season, not an exact measure.

Warmer than average Ocean temperatures across the Atlantic basin and a forecasted neutral ENSO phase across the Pacific will be leading factors for another busy season. The Pacific basin is currently in a La Niña phase and is expected to become neutral by this summer. There is a 13% chance that an El Niño emerges during the peak of the season. If that happens, these numbers would end up being lower due to the increased wind shear that El Niño brings to the Atlantic basis.

The Atlantic season officially kicks off on June 1st and Hurricane Tracker will be here to follow each storm along the way. Thanks for using Hurricane Tracker!
