Good news, Kingshill Head Start families! 🎉

We are excited to welcome our youngest learners back to the Kingshill Head Start for the first day of school tomorrow, Wednesday, September 16, 2026!

While WAPA continues its water restoration efforts in the surrounding area, the Department of Human Services has put comprehensive arrangements in place to ensure a reliable water supply directly on site. The health, safety, and well-being of our children and staff are our highest priorities, and these temporary measures allow us to safely open and fully operate.

We want to send a warm welcome back to all of our amazing students, teachers, staff, and families! Thank you all so much for your incredible patience, flexibility, and support while we worked through these utility updates.

We can't wait to see our young learners tomorrow morning for a bright and productive school year! ✨

On Wednesday, the Office of Child Care and Regulatory Services (OCCRS) hosted the Fall Institute 2026 at the DC Canegata Recreation Center. Early childhood providers and educators gathered for a high-impact day of professional development designed to elevate quality practices across our early learning environments.

Special thanks to our featured presenters for sharing their expertise and empowering our provider community:

Resurgence ABA Therapy: Dr. Ria T. Archibald & Akricia Joseph

Child Care State Capacity Building Center: Holly Wilcher & Lisa Ojibway

Thank you to every attendee and partner who participated in making this year’s institute a success. Together, we are building a stronger, brighter foundation for our youngest learners!

🚨 UPDATE: Frederiksted Head Start Opens Tomorrow; Kingshill Opening Remains Delayed

Attention St. Croix Parents and Families:

The Virgin Islands Department of Human Services (VIDHS), Office of Head Start, is pleased to announce that Frederiksted Head Start will officially begin the school year tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9.

💧 Frederiksted Head Start
With water service available at the Frederiksted campus, the facility is ready to welcome our students and staff for their first day of school tomorrow.

🚨 Kingshill Head Start
The opening of the Kingshill Head Start campus remains suspended until further notice as we continue to address the water service issue affecting the facility.

VIDHS is closely monitoring the situation and will provide parents and families with an update on the opening of Kingshill Head Start as soon as additional information becomes available.

We thank our Head Start families for their continued patience, flexibility, and understanding. We look forward to welcoming our Frederiksted Head Start students tomorrow! 🎒📚

🚨 URGENT UPDATE: 1st Day of School Delayed for Frederiksted & Kingshill Head Start (St. Croix) 🚨

Attention St. Croix Parents and Families:

The USVI Department of Human Services (VIDHS), Office of Head Start must urgently advise that the first day of school scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, for the Frederiksted and Kingshill Head Start campuses is delayed until further notice.

💧 Why is this happening?
This sudden closure is due to a lack of running water on the campuses, caused by ongoing utility repairs in the surrounding areas. We cannot safely open the facilities for our students and staff until a reliable water supply is fully restored.

🙏 Our Sincere Apologies:
We extend our deepest apologies to all our parents and families. We understand how highly anticipated the first day of school is, and we know this sudden delay causes major frustration and disruption to your daily schedules. However, the health, safety, and well-being of our children must always remain our absolute highest priority.

What’s Next?
We are closely monitoring the repair progress with the utility. We will notify you immediately with a new start date the moment the water is restored and it is safe to open.

Thank you, St. Croix community, for your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we navigate this unexpected challenge together.
