Indiana Fire Instructors Assoc., Inc We are a small not-for-profit Association that provides training resources to the fire and emergency services of Indiana.

The Indiana Fire Instructors Association, Inc. was established in 1948 at Purdue University by an ad hoc group of fire department training officers and instructors. It was originally the Indiana Certified Fire Instructors Association. The IFIA is a not-for-profit corporation under Indiana statutes and accepts membership from anyone actively engaged in instruction related to Fire Prevention, Fire P

rotection, Fire Safety and Public Fire Safety Education. This involves career, industrial, volunteer firefighters and educators.

Congratulations to Chief John Shafer on being appointed to the Fire

Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) proudly announces John Shafer as the new director of the Indiana Fire and Public Safety Training Academy system.

With nearly 30 years of fire service experience, Shafer brings extensive knowledge and expertise in fire training and public safety at the local, state, national and international levels.

Shafer most recently served with the Washington Township Avon Fire Department. His first day with IDHS will be February 20.

Agricultural Rescue Academy

For those in agricultural areas the possibility of always exists for a large piece of farm machinery to be involved in a mishap.

These often-mammoth pieces of machinery are quite impressive and complex in nature. They differ greatly from over the road vehicles.

Mishaps often occur in remote areas on uneven, soft, or hilly terrain. Extrications can be challenging on these very-unique machines.

In this program will provide you with a comprehensive overview of many types of agricultural machinery as well as best practices for disentanglement, you disassemble a and other extrication practices.

This Task Force 1, Inc. program will transition from the classroom to the field to review many types of vehicles as well as provide hands-on experience agricultural machinery rescues.

The final component of the program will involve various scenario-based exercises that will utilize call skills provided in the program.

This course will start in a classroom environment but transition to the field for various skill stations, small group exercises and simulated rescue event involving agricultural vehicles and machinery. This is a two day offering.

The goal of this program is to understand the hazards, challenges, strategies, risks, and techniques related vehicle rescue involving agricultural vehicles and machinery.

In this program student will:
• Respect the challenges presented by agricultural vehicles and machinery.
• Understand size up, stabilization, hazard control, disassembly, extrication, and patient removal.
• Know that line of duty deaths has occurred in during agricultural vehicles and machinery rescue events.
• Participate as part of a coordinated rescue effort involving an agricultural vehicles and machinery.
• Rely on a strong command structure to accomplish the rescue activity.
