City of Zeigler Fire Department Awarded 2026 Illinois State Fire Marshal Small Equipment Grant
ZEIGLER, IL — The City of Zeigler Fire Department is proud to announce it has been awarded the 2026 Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office Small Equipment Grant in the amount of $26,000.
The grant funding will be used to purchase a new LUCAS chest compression system and new SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) bottles to help enhance firefighter and emergency medical response capabilities within the community.
The LUCAS device is an advanced mechanical CPR system designed to deliver consistent, high-quality chest compressions during cardiac emergencies, allowing first responders to provide lifesaving care more effectively and safely during transport and extended emergency incidents. The new SCBA bottles will ensure firefighters continue to have reliable respiratory protection while operating in hazardous environments.
Fire Chief Ronnie Diuguid emphasized the importance of grant opportunities such as this for small departments and rural communities.
“Receiving this grant is a huge benefit to our department and the citizens we serve,” said Chief Diuguid. “Equipment like the LUCAS device and updated SCBA bottles are critical tools that help protect both our firefighters and our residents during emergencies. Grants like this allow smaller departments like ours to obtain lifesaving equipment that may otherwise place a significant burden on local budgets. We are extremely thankful to the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office for continuing to support fire departments across the state.”
