Since 1966 CDS has been committed to providing the children and families of Ottawa and Northern Allegan counties with services that help them prepare for their future. Our multiple programs feature research-based curricula designed to teach children the learning and social skills they need to achieve kindergarten readiness. All of our teachers are professionally qualified for preschool education a

nd our dedicated staff work hard to provide a safe and culturally sensitive environment. Family Engagement

We encourage family engagement within our programs as well as offering
volunteering opportunities for parents in the form of positions on the Policy Council,
Health Advisory, or Education Advisory committees. Parents are also encouraged
to volunteer to help in the classroom or on field trips. Spanish Speaking Families

All of our programs are designed to accommodate Spanish speaking children and
families. Many of our staff members are fluent in Spanish including our classroom
assistants who can attend to the needs of children raised in Spanish speaking
households.

Another exciting thing we are bringing to Patmos this summer is a partnership with Feeding America West Michigan's Gather to Grow Program! We will be serving free kid meals on Mondays and Thursdays from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. starting on June 8th. Most of the time, this will be in the DEPOT Room, but it may also be moved outside for certain events. All are welcome!

Please message and ask for Miss Paige (Youth Services Librarian) if you have any questions at all about this program!

Safety is the soil where confidence grows. 🌱

When children feel emotionally safe, they are more able to ask questions, make mistakes, take healthy risks, express their feelings, set boundaries, and explore who they are becoming.

A child who feels safe doesn’t need to be perfect to feel loved.

They can say:

“I don’t understand.”
“I need help.”
“I made a mistake.”
“I feel sad.”
“I don’t want to.”
“Can I try again?”

And each time we respond with connection instead of shame, we teach them that relationships can be a safe place to learn, grow, and be fully human.

✨ Emotional safety doesn’t mean children never struggle.
It means they know they don’t have to struggle alone.
