Congratulations to The Downtown Exchange. Cheers to many more!

🎉🎂 WE'RE TURNING 3! 🎂🎉

Three years ago today, The Downtown Exchange opened its doors for the very first time.

Since then, we've welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors, served countless meals and drinks, hosted live music, artisan markets, meetings, celebrations, and watched friendships, businesses, and community connections grow right here in downtown Zanesville.

What started as an idea became a destination. What started as a building became a community.

To every customer, vendor, musician, artisan, employee, community partner, and supporter who has been part of this journey—THANK YOU. ❤️

Today we're celebrating three incredible years of food, drinks, laughter, memories, and community, and we're excited for everything still to come.

🥂 Here's to the first three years...
🎉 And here's to many more.

Happy Anniversary, DTX!

Happening this Friday!

The Muskingum County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society (MCCOGS) will be celebrating with the opening of the John McIntire Library on May 1st.

To celebrate, MCCOGS has reprinted Before Dillon: Memories of the Lost Villages of Nashport, Irville and Pleasant Valley. The books will cost $30 and the authors, Mari McLean and Rose Ellen Jenkins will be autographing copies of the book during the Open House from 4–7 pm on May 1. Only 50 copies are available.
If you have previously purchased a copy of Before Dillon, you may bring that book in for autographs as well.

MCCOGS will also be having a sale on Warning High Water Ahead. This is a photographic history of the 1913 flood in Zanesville compiled by Tom Brown. Copies are on sale for $15.

MCCOGS is entirely operated by volunteers and appreciates the space the Muskingum County Library System has given them for over thirty years. The Genealogy Library will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Saturday from 10 am to 1:30 pm after the reopening.

West Virginia’s War was the Real War: Some Myths and Misunderstandings about the state created by the U.S. Civil War.
By Bill Kerrigan

West Virginia’s Civil War story is unique, and it is uniquely misunderstood. While it shares some common experiences with the border states of Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky and Missouri, it was unique in that it was the only state created by the conflict. Questions remain about why Virginia’s northwest separated from the Old Dominion after it joined the Confederacy. And in older, traditional military histories of the Civil War, West Virginia is viewed as a sideshow to the real war, to the point where maps of the conflict often don’t assign it to a “theater” of war. This talk will explore some of the central questions about why West Virginia’s separation came to be, what role events in the region had in influencing the outcome of the larger conflict, and why West Virginian’s today still harbor ambiguous feelings about the state’s birth in wartime.

The program is Free and open to the public
