Staff were invited to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy to have lunch with the department's two cadets that are currently in the Basic 154 Academy. They will be completing training and returning to serve the citizens of Zanesville in July.

***Update with Charges***

On February 24th, 2026, the Zanesville Police Department and Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Teams executed a drug related search warrant at 1034 Putnam Ave. The search warrant was a culmination of an on-going drug trafficking investigation being conducted by the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office and Zanesville Police Department’s Joint Drug Task Force, The Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Task
Force, and The Ohio Counter Drug Program. The investigation started from numerous citizen complaints of drug activity in the area.

During the ex*****on of the search warrant, one individual was taken into custody. Multiple types of suspected narcotics and one firearm were seized from the residence.

This investigation will be forwarded to Muskingum County Prosecutor Ron Welch to be reviewed for charges.

As a result of the drug investigation from yesterday, Jodi Bottomley, age 52, Zanesville, has been charged with one count of Trafficking in Drugs, F/2 (Methamphetamine)(Vicinity of School Zone). She is presently incarcerated in the Zanesville City Jail, and will have her arraignment on 2-26-2026 in Zanesville Municipal Court. Her case will be presented to a Muskingum County Grand Jury at a later date.

Today, we honor fallen Officer Brett Markwood #74.

Markwood was shot and killed while chasing a man suspected of robbing a convenience store. He and other officers had been called to the scene, following footprints left in the fresh snow. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect shot Markwood in the face at close range.

May we never forget your sacrifice.

**UPDATE** She has been located and is safe.

The Zanesville Police Department is attempting to locate a missing person. Mannette Dodson, age 53, was last seen February 9th, on her way to an appointment. Dodson’s physical description is 5’03”, 120 pounds, black hair, and hazel eyes.

Anyone with information regarding the location of Dodson or this investigation is urged to contact the Zanesville Police Department at (740) 455-0700.

Zanesville has two cadets receiving training in this academy. Returning to serve the community this Summer.

On February 2nd, 2026, at approximately 19:41 hours, the Zanesville Police Department received a report in reference to a shooting incident that occurred at 264 Corwin Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio. Upon arrival, Officers found that a residence had been shot. Detectives responded to interview witness and process the scene.

No injuries were reported. No suspect description is available. No further details will be released as this is an ongoing investigation.
