🛴 🚴‍♀️ Recently, we had the opportunity to educate K–6th grade students at our elementary school on safe scooter and bicycle operation. We were also fortunate to provide helmets for students to check out and take home if they did not already have one that properly fit.

We have seen one too many close calls in our community, and we hope the children in our community now have both the knowledge and equipment needed to safely enjoy all their wheels this summer!

A special thank you to Children's Nebraska Injury Prevention Program for their continued partnership and for providing helmets for our students, and to Yutan Public Schools for prioritizing student safety!

Early this morning, our department was dispatched to a residential structure fire. Initial crews arrived on scene in under six minutes after the 4:30 a.m. dispatch to find heavy fire conditions.

Thankfully, all occupants were able to safely escape the home, and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

We would like to thank our mutual aid partners Mead Fire Department, Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department - NE and Ashland NE Volunteer Fire Department for their assistance during the incident, especially Waterloo Fire Rescue for providing breakfast from their pancake feed to crews who remained on scene for several hours.

This incident is a powerful reminder of the importance of working smoke detectors. Fire conditions can deteriorate rapidly, and early warning from properly functioning smoke alarms truly saves lives. Please take a moment today to check your smoke detectors and make sure they are working properly.

🚒🔥 Move over firefighters… we’ve got some new recruits in town 🔥🚒

We celebrated some of our 5th graders graduating from Junior Fire Patrol this week, and let’s just say… these kids now know more about safety than most adults (yes, even how to stop, drop, and roll like a pro 😎).

They’ve become experts at the art of leadership, responsibility, and keeping things in order – basically mini-bosses with badges. We’re quite sure a few of them have tried to “inspect” their parents at home too 👀

We look forward to seeing all the amazing things you’ll achieve next. Keep shining, keep safe, and perhaps we’ll see some of you in the fire/ems field one day! 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒
