This educational video, produced by The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, provides essential guidance on managing Citrus Brown Wood Rot to help growers stop the spread of this destructive disease.
Often caused by Phytophthora or Ganoderma fungi, citrus wood rot aggressively attacks the roots, trunk, and bark of citrus trees. The disease relies on airborne pathogens that infiltrate the tree through open wounds left by broken branches. These critical entry points are typically caused by the heavy weight of mature citrus before harvest, bark cracking from extreme cold, or accidental damage from machinery used during routine orchard maintenance.
If this disease is not actively removed from the orchard through careful pruning and subsequent burning, it will continue to spread throughout the area and will likely result in the loss of the entire citrus orchard.
