A Special Thank You to Jesus!

Last week, our Summer Camp students had the opportunity to learn from our amazing Wetlands and Facilities Manager, Jesus, who shared his knowledge about the Yuma East Wetlands and the incredible work being done to preserve and protect this special place.

From the rich history of the wetlands to the native plants, wildlife habitats, and ongoing restoration efforts, our campers gained a deeper appreciation for the natural treasures right here in our community. It was a hands-on learning experience they won't soon forget!

Thank you, Jesus, for taking the time to inspire our campers and share your passion for the wetlands. We are grateful for your dedication, expertise, and all that you do to help preserve this important ecosystem for future generations.

Today, we recognize and honor Juneteenth.

Observed each year on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when news of emancipation reached the last remaining enslaved African Americans in Texas, marking an important moment in our nation's history.

As we reflect on the many stories that have shaped the United States, we acknowledge the significance of this day and the enduring values of freedom, resilience, and hope.

The Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area joins communities across the country in recognizing Juneteenth and honoring its place in our shared history.

Snake Day was a success at Week 3 of our Summer Camp!

Today, our campers slithered into learning all about snakesโ€”the important role they play in our ecosystem, their unique anatomy, and why these often-misunderstood creatures deserve our respect. One of the highlights of the day was getting to meet a real live snake! One of our camp leaders brought in their pet snake, giving campers a unique opportunity to see these fascinating reptiles up close and learn more about them firsthand.

The fun continued with a lively game of Snake Bingo that had everyone excited and engaged!

We've had an incredible week of learning, exploring, and making memories, and we can't wait for another exciting week of camp next week.

๐ŸŽ‰ There are only FOUR spots remaining! If you haven't registered your child yet, now is the time. Don't miss out on a summer filled with hands-on activities, history, nature, and fun!

We truly enjoyed hosting one of the City of Yuma's Summer Student Interns here at the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area!

During her time with us, she had the opportunity to meet our entire team, learn about the many roles that help our organization operate each day, and gain firsthand insight into the work we do to preserve and enhance Yuma's historic and natural treasures.

She also toured the Yuma Territorial Prison, Colorado River State Historic Park, and the Yuma East Wetlands, allowing her to experience the impact of our work beyond the office and see our mission in action.

Thank you for spending time with usโ€”we loved sharing what we do and hope this experience provided valuable insight into the many career paths in parks, preservation, education, and community engagement!

A Special Thank You!

The Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Dale Dumo and the Travis Manion Foundation Yuma Chapter for their generous support of our Summer Camp program.

Not only did they help sponsor local children so they could participate in camp, but Mr. Dumo is also taking time next week to visit with our campers and share his knowledge and experiences. Opportunities like these help create meaningful and memorable experiences for our youth.

We are incredibly grateful for your generosity, community spirit, and commitment to investing in the next generation. Thank you for spending part of your morning with usโ€”we hope you enjoy your time at camp as much as we do!

Thank you for helping make Summer Camp a success!
