Woodard... Where YOUR FUTURE Matters!

What a special evening at Woodard as our students, staff, and guardians came together to sign the AVID contract and commit to a shared vision of student success! ✍️📚 This partnership represents our collective commitment to high expectations, hard work, and helping every student reach their full potential.

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and equips students with the skills they need to succeed through organization, collaboration, critical thinking, rigorous instruction, and strong study habits. Our goal is to prepare every student for success in college, career, or the military! 🎓🚀

🏆 Did you know? Woodard is an AVID National Demonstration School! This prestigious distinction recognizes schools that demonstrate exemplary AVID implementation and serve as models for other educators. About 200 schools nationwide and internationally hold this designation, out of more than 7,400 AVID school sites. That places us among an elite group committed to excellence in college and career readiness- the only school in Yuma County!

A HUGE thank you to Ms. Higuera, our AVID Site Coordinator, for her hard work, leadership, and dedication to building and strengthening our AVID program. Your commitment continues to make a difference for our students and staff!

We also want to recognize Miss Alonzo and Mr. Lizarraga, our AVID elective teachers, for the passion, encouragement, and high expectations they bring to our students every day. Thank you for helping our Roadrunners develop the skills, confidence, and determination to pursue their futures!

At Woodard, we believe that when students, families, and educators work together, incredible things happen. We are proud to be an AVID National Demonstration School and excited to continue growing a culture where every Roadrunner is supported, challenged, and prepared for what comes next! ❤💙

Once a Roadrunner, always a Roadrunner!

Fun fact: Mr. Tyndall was a teacher and athletics coach at Woodard from 1977-1991. Then he was the Assistant Principal from 1991-1996 before moving on to become the Principal at Gila Vista Jr. High.

We appreciate Mr. Tyndall for still caring for and teaching our Roadrunners!

🚨 Roadrunner Nation! 🚨

Woodard’s 6th graders had an exciting hands-on visit from Kofa High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs! CTE gives students opportunities to explore real-world careers while developing practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and knowledge they can use in high school, college, and future careers.

Our students got to experience a variety of career-related activities, including:
🩸 Blood swabbing
🖐️ Fingerprinting
🚔 Lawful arrests, Miranda rights & handcuffing
🥽 Concussion simulation goggles
🔎 Crime scene investigation
💡 LED lights to detect residue
🩹 Tourniquet application
📻 Walkie-talkie radios & communication codes

It was an incredible opportunity for our Roadrunners to learn by doing, asking questions, and getting a glimpse into exciting career pathways available through CTE!

A HUGE thank you to Kofa High School for bringing these experiences to Woodard and helping our students connect learning to the real world! ❤👑💙
