FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wanted Felony Domestic Violence Suspect Prompts Multi-Agency Response in Live Oak:

*23-year-old Andreus Routh of Marysville is wanted for felony domestic violence and felony evading. He is a convicted felon and is known to frequent the Yuba-Sutter area.

Anyone who sees Andreus Routh should not approach or attempt to contact him. Due to his criminal history and known association with fi****ms, he should be considered potentially armed. Instead, immediately contact your local law enforcement agency or call 911.

Information regarding his whereabouts may also be reported to the Sutter County Sheriff's Office at (530) 822-7307. *

On the evening of July 29, 2026, around 6:30 p.m., deputies with the Sutter County Sheriff's Office responded to the 9500 block of Richmond Way in the City of Live Oak for a report of a felony physical domestic violence incident.

As deputies arrived, the alleged suspect, 23-year-old Andreus Routh of Marysville, fled the area on foot, prompting an immediate search. Deputies quickly established a containment perimeter after receiving information that Routh was actively moving through residential backyards by jumping fences. Based on his actions and the rapidly evolving circumstances, deputies were concerned he could attempt to enter occupied residences to evade arrest or barricade himself, creating significant public safety concern.

At the time of the search, deputies also knew Routh had prior firearm-related offenses and is known to carry fi****ms. Because it was unknown whether Routh was armed during the incident, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office treated the situation as a high-risk operation. To protect the surrounding neighborhood and safely locating the suspect, the Sheriff's Office activated its Special Enforcement Detail (SED) Team and requested assistance from regional law enforcement partners.

To assist with the safe containment of the area and provide critical information to residents, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office issued an emergency notification advising residents in the surrounding area to shelter in place while the search operation was underway. The notification was issued as a precautionary measure to help protect residents, allow deputies and assisting agencies to safely conduct operations, and minimize unnecessary exposure to a potentially dangerous situation.

CHP Air-21, a Butte County Sheriff's Office K-9 team, and the Yuba City Police Department responded to assist with aerial surveillance, ground searches, perimeter security, and coordinated search efforts.

The coordinated operation continued for approximately five hours. Despite an extensive search utilizing specialized resources, Routh was not located, and the active search operation was concluded. Detectives and patrol deputies continue to actively investigate the case, and efforts to locate Routh remain ongoing.

The Sutter County Sheriff's Office extends its sincere appreciation to the California Highway Patrol, Butte County Sheriff's Office, the Yuba City Police Department, the Sutter County Sheriff's Office Detectives, the Sutter County Office of Emergency Management, and our Public Safety Dispatchers for their immediate response, professionalism, and dedication throughout the operation. From coordinating resources and managing communications to conducting investigative follow-up and supporting field operations, each played a critical role in the coordinated response.

Incidents involving violent felony suspects often require a unified regional effort, and these strong partnerships and the commitment of our personnel help ensure the safety of our community.

On October 10, 2024, at approximately 10:50 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Wilson Avenue following reports of gunfire and a shooting victim. Upon arrival, officers and paramedics found 42-year-old Phillip (PJ) Gonzales Jr. (pictured) had sustained fatal injuries from a gunshot wound. The Yuba City Police Departmentโ€™s Investigation Unit immediately took over the investigation and diligently pursued all leads to identify and locate the suspect. On November 5, 2025, at approximately 12:20 p.m., investigators located the suspect, 37-year-old Mario Juan Franco Hernandez, walking near Forbes Avenue and Gray Avenue. Hernandez was taken into custody without incident and later booked into the Sutter County Jail on a charge of murder.

On May 22nd, 2026, a jury returned a verdict of guilty of first degree murder and related enhancements. Thank you, members of the jury, for the service you provided to this community.

Today, July 2nd, the trial judge sentenced Hernandez to a total of 75 years to life. The original 25-to-life sentence for murder was doubled to 50 to life due to a prior strike conviction, and a consecutive 25-to-life sentence was added for the personal use of a firearm causing great bodily injury or death enhancement. PJโ€™s family, supported by victim advocates, provided impact statements detailing the profoundly shattering and ongoing loss they experience.

District Attorney Jennifer R. Duprรฉ led the prosecution, with Officer Jared Thornton of the Yuba City Police Department serving as lead investigator. We are grateful for the civilians and members of law enforcement who testified or otherwise assisted in bringing justice for PJ.
