The Sutter County Museum is hosting a traveling exhibit called "Abuelita's Kitchen" from September 23rd - November 21st. This exhibit features stories of Mexican and Mexican American grandmothers who now live in California.

We would love to highlight local Mexican and Mexican American grandmothers who currently live in Yuba and Sutter Counties in this exhibit! Please complete the form to nominate your local abuelita for inclusion in a book we will create during the exhibit, share about a special dish she cooks, and provide information about memories related to this food. Please include a high-quality photo or photos. We will contact you if we have any questions.

Forms must be submitted by Saturday, November 21st (the last day of the exhibit). Forms without all the required information unfortunately cannot be accepted. Please also note that we may edit the text you provide for cohesion with the rest of the exhibit. Thank you!

This summer, 10 community members took part in the inaugural LEAP Into Sutter County Community Academy, a five-week program created to give residents a closer look at how County government works and the services it provides.

Throughout the five sessions, participants visited County facilities, met with staff from a variety of departments, asked questions and gained a deeper understanding of the work happening across Sutter County.

A big thank you to our inaugural LEAP participants for their time, curiosity and willingness to learn more about their local government. We appreciate each of you for taking part!

We remember the victims, honor the first responders and others who put themselves in harm’s way, and reflect on the lasting impact of that day on our nation.

New Online Service for Sutter County Businesses

The Sutter County Clerk-Recorder’s Office has launched a new service that allows business owners to complete Fictitious Business Name (FBN) Statement filings entirely online, with no in-person visit required.

The new portal allows users to submit:
• New FBN statements
• Renewals
• Abandonments
• Withdrawals

The process also includes secure identity verification through ID.me, helping streamline the filing process while maintaining security.

Business owners can access the new service through the Sutter County Fictitious Business Name Statements page on Sutter.gov.

Sutter County Ends Intermittent Fire Station Brownouts

As of 7 a.m. today, the Sutter County Fire Department has reopened all of its fire stations following a period of temporary, intermittent brownouts caused by critically low staffing levels.

The brownouts originally went into effect at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25. At the time, the department had four fire engineer vacancies across its three stations, along with five additional team members on leave. This reduced staffing to 50% of normal levels.

The County developed a plan to rotate brownouts every 48 hours between Oswald Station 8, located at 1280 Barry Road in Yuba City, and Sutter Station 6, located at 2340 California St. in Sutter. The plan was designed to mitigate impacts to residents while maintaining the highest level of emergency response coverage possible for rural areas.

The County moved quickly to recruit and interview additional personnel, expediting the hiring process to restore staffing to levels necessary to safely operate all stations. Since that process began, the department has onboarded three extra-help firefighters to bolster its team, and firefighters who had been on leave have returned.

“We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding as we worked through this staffing challenge,” said Sutter County Fire Chief Kyle Long. “Our priority throughout this process has been to maintain safe staffing for our firefighters while providing the best possible emergency response coverage to the community."

At this time, the department does not anticipate any additional station brownouts, barring any unforeseen circumstances. The Sutter County Fire Department will continue to monitor staffing levels and operational needs to maintain safe and effective emergency response coverage throughout the County.

September is National Su***de Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma and remind our community that help is available.

Knowing the signs, reaching out to someone who may be struggling and encouraging them to seek help can make a difference. Today, September 10, is World Su***de Prevention Day and an opportunity to remind one another that support is available when it’s needed.

On Tuesday, the Sutter County Board of Supervisors recognized National Su***de Prevention Month by presenting a proclamation to members of Sutter Yuba Behavioral Health and Sutter County Health and Human Services in recognition of their ongoing work in our community.
