While only minutes from the California State Capitol in Sacramento, Yuba City’s unique location benefits both businesses and residents and offers a quality, family-oriented lifestyle. The Feather River borders the City to the East and the City's western horizon is dominated by the Sutter Buttes, popularly believed to be the smallest mountain range in the world. Business
The City has a diversity of

businesses and professional services including the largest dried fruit processing plant in the world, Sunsweet Growers Incorporated. Although Yuba City’s roots are agriculturally based, it’s location near the state capitol and Beale Air Force base have made it a regional hub attracting entrepreneurs, manufacturers and green technology companies. Education
In addition to Yuba Community College, a center of excellence, three universities are within an hour’s drive – UC Davis, Cal State Sacramento and Cal State Chico, each offering research and development, entrepreneur and innovation programs as well as numerous Venture Capital and Angel Capital funding institutions. Culture
The very diverse population of Yuba City is a source of pride for its citizens. The City hosts an annual Cultural Celebration to celebrate ethnic traditions and diversity through food, arts and music from around the region and the world. The Punjabi population in the Yuba-Sutter area has grown to be one of the largest in the United States and one of the largest Sikh populations outside of India. Each year on the first Sunday of November, Sikhs throughout the world attend the Sikh parade in Yuba City. The Bok Kai Temple across the Feather River in Marysville was established in 1854, five years after the first contingent of Chinese arrived in California to work in the gold mines. The current temple, built in 1880, remains the focus of the Chinese community and is the only one of its kind in the United States. The annual Bok Kai Festival hosts one of the oldest running parades in the country.

🚔 Technology and Teamwork Help Recover Stolen Property

🤝 A recent theft investigation highlights how technology and collaboration help support public safety in Yuba City.

🛒 In late May, a theft was reported at a local business. Through follow-up investigation, Yuba City Police officers identified a suspect connected to the incident.

📸 On June 5, officers received an alert from a Flock license plate reader camera associated with the suspect vehicle. Officers located the vehicle, conducted a traffic stop, and recovered stolen property linked to the investigation. Additional evidence was also located during the investigation, and the suspect was taken into custody on multiple charges.

🔍 This case demonstrates how investigative work, technology, and coordinated efforts between dispatchers and officers help identify suspects, recover stolen property, and enhance public safety throughout our community.

👏 Thank you to Yuba City Dispatch and Police Department personnel for their continued commitment to serving the residents and businesses of Yuba City.

🌡️🐾 A parked car can become deadly for pets in minutes.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association:

"Your vehicle can quickly reach a temperature that puts your pet at risk of serious illness or death—even on a day that doesn't seem that hot, and even if the car is left in the shade. And cracking the windows makes no difference."

The numbers are alarming. Research shows that the temperature inside a vehicle can rise about 20°F in just 10 minutes and nearly 30°F in 20 minutes. After an hour, the interior can be more than 40°F hotter than the outside temperature. Even on a mild 70-degree day, temperatures inside a vehicle can exceed 110°F.

If you see an animal left in a hot vehicle:

📞 During normal business hours, contact SASA immediately at 530-822-7375.

The City is aware of concerns about the growing impacts of homelessness at Sam Brannan Park.

The issues are known to the City, and staff have been collecting data on these issues, including calls for police and emergency services, trash and debris cleanup, and other concerns reported by park users and City staff. The City will use this information to develop a plan to address ongoing issues at the park.

Many residents ask why people can't simply be removed from public spaces. The answer is that cities must follow state and federal laws. Public parks are open to everyone, and enforcement actions must be based on illegal behavior or violations of park rules—not simply because someone is present in the park.

At the same time, the City shares concerns about litter, safety, and the overall condition of the park. These concerns are important and deserve attention.

Like many communities throughout California, Yuba City has seen reductions in homelessness outreach staffing due to budget constraints. As a result, the number of calls for service often exceeds the resources available to respond. This, too, needs to be addressed.

The City remains committed to keeping parks safe and clean. Staff are considering available options and working on a plan that addresses these issues while staying within the law and making the best use of available resources.

We will share more information as that work moves forward.

Investing in preventative maintenance today helps protect our streets—and save taxpayer dollars in the long run! Major road repair projects can cost more than $2 million per mile, while preventative maintenance treatments cost less than 5% of that for the same stretch of road.

The City’s Street Maintenance Division has recently introduced a new preventative maintenance method: mastic crack sealing.

So, what is it?
Mastic crack filler is a hot-applied asphalt repair material designed to fill wide cracks (1.5 inches or wider) that are too large for standard crack sealing, but not extensive enough to require repaving.

What’s it made of?
A durable blend of polymer-modified asphalt binder and aggregate.

How does it help?
The material melts into wide cracks and hardens to create a flexible, waterproof, and smooth repair that can last five years or more—helping extend the life of our roads and improve driving conditions.

Where is it happening?
Street Maintenance crews are currently working on Gray Avenue from Louise Avenue to Spiva Avenue, with additional locations planned in the future. Stay tuned as we continue investing in safer, smoother streets for our community!
