Join Ypsilanti Township Fire Department on Monday, May 18th at 10:00am for the "Blessing of the new Quint ladder truck" at the Main Fire Station (222 S. Ford Blvd). Everyone is welcome to attend.

Firefighters have been training with this apparatus all week. After the State of Michigan EMS inspection, it will be 100% in service.

Over the past month, our community has experienced two residential structure fires. In both cases, Plymouth Township Firefighters responded with only six personnel on duty — the minimum staffing level for our department — and relied heavily on mutual aid from neighboring departments to safely and effectively manage these emergencies.

We are proud of the strong partnerships we have with surrounding departments, and their support is invaluable. However, it is important for our residents to understand that an immediate and adequately staffed response is critical. Emergencies such as structure fires can have conditions rapidly deteriorate within minutes.

Our remembers do take incredible risks - especially while operating well below the NFPA guidelines for appropriate staffing levels. We take these risks to our own safety in order to protect the community. Operating at minimum staffing places increased demands on our firefighters and can impact the speed and efficiency of critical tasks such as fire attack, search and rescue, ventilation, and water supply. These are not optional functions — they are essential to protecting lives and property.

Our goal is, and always will be, to provide the highest level of service to this community. Ensuring adequate staffing is a key component of that mission.

We remain committed to serving Plymouth Township with professionalism, dedication, and transparency. We encourage ongoing dialogue about how we can continue to strengthen fire protection for our residents.

We’re always proud to serve our community, but moments like this remind us why we do what we do.

Members of Ypsilanti Township Fire Department Local 1830 had the opportunity to spend some time with the amazing kids from Little Angels Daycare, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at the tools and trucks we use every day. There’s nothing better than seeing that excitement and curiosity firsthand—it’s what builds trust, inspires future firefighters, and strengthens the bond between our department and the community we serve.

A big thank you to Little Angels Daycare for welcoming us and allowing us to share a small glimpse into our world with your incredible group of kids.

And as for the weather… a little rain didn’t stop anyone, if anything, it just made it a more authentic fire department experience! 🌧️🚒
