Celebrating Our Volunteer Coordinator, Joanna!

Last week, our wonderful Volunteer Coordinator, Joanna, attended the From the Volunteer Management Hybrid Conference (VMHC)—a fantastic opportunity to connect, learn, and share ideas with volunteer leaders from across North America!

Presented by Better Impact in partnership with the Association of Leaders in Volunteer Engagement (AL!VE) and Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada (VMPC), the conference brought together more than 2,300 volunteer leaders from 45 states and 8 Canadian provinces! The local gathering was hosted by the Washtenaw Association of Volunteer Coordinators (WAVC), United Way for Southeastern Michigan (UWSEM), and the University of Michigan’s Ginsberg Center.

We’re grateful for Joanna’s dedication to strengthening our volunteer program and creating meaningful opportunities for people to support SOS Community Services. Investing in volunteer leadership helps us build stronger partnerships and make an even greater impact in our community.

Thank you, University of Michigan Psychiatry Department!

A big thank-you to the University of Michigan Psychiatry Department for spending time with SOS Community Services last week to tackle some much-needed yard maintenance! Your hard work helps us care for our properties and maintain welcoming spaces for the families we serve.

We’re so grateful for community partners who roll up their sleeves and make a tangible difference through volunteering!

Big changes begin at home.

For young children, some of the most important learning happens in the place they feel safest: home.

Through the Parents as Teachers model, SOS Community Services offers home visiting that connects families with trained parent educators who support child development, strengthen parenting skills, and help families prepare their children for a successful start in school.

Home visits meet families where they are—literally and figuratively. Parent educators build trusting relationships, share age-appropriate activities, answer questions, and help caregivers recognize the incredible role they play in their child's growth.

These visits are about more than developmental milestones. They're about empowering parents, building confidence, and ensuring children have the support they need to thrive.

When we invest in parents, we invest in children's futures. 💙
