Thank you to Leah Chapman for coordinating this meeting about the proposed data center in Ypsilanti, and for inviting me along with others to this important community conversation. I was inspired by everyone's passion and commitment, and will continue to do what I can to support you and amplify your voices.

You may have heard that UM/Los Alamos just informed the Township that they completed the purchase of land near the Huron River. This means that even if the University and the Department of War choose to build elsewhere or not at all, they will still own this land. Their intent to pursue research and development on nuclear and other Department of War projects here in Ypsilanti despite the risk, without consent, and without concern for community well-being or benefit seems clear.

GOOD NEWS! Full SNAP payments have resumed for November and we've heard from a few of you in the Ypsilanti community that you have already received the payments you are owed this morning.

Republicans continue to play ugly games with our human rights. We know that another health care fight is next, along with the continued suffering and criminal assaults we're experiencing in immigrant communities. The long era of suffering we knew another Trump administration is here but we will continue to rely on one another and fight back for one another and our shared future.

Some good news: the USDA was ordered to pay partial SNAP benefits for November and is complying!

It is expected that people will receive about half of their usual SNAP payment, starting this Saturday, November 8. More details and resources linked below.

Democratic leaders continue to work to fill the gaps created by Trump's unprecedented defunding of SNAP infrastructure. One program is the Double Up Food Bucks program that attempts to make fruits and vegetables more affordable. There is no real replacement for receiving the SNAP support that you are owed, but hopefully this is helpful until that wrong is righted.

In the greater Ypsilanti community, there are only two grocery stores that participate in the Double Up Food Bucks program: Shoppers Marketplace on Holmes and the Ypsilanti Food Co-op on River. In addition, the S Washington St location of Ypsilanti Farmers Markets participates in the program.

Jimmie and his House colleagues are doing everything they can to secure food assistance for those in need. As you know, the legislature found ways to cover the federal dollars lost due to the republican shutdown, but Trump found a way to undermine that as well.

Democrats in the Michigan House today put forward a five-bill package to provide the care and support all communities need. The five bills include:
-- Securing Fresh Food Access: Creates a $900 million emergency supplemental for food assistance to SNAP recipients.
-- Keeping Food Banks Stocked: Provide an additional $12.5 million (GF/GP) supplemental for the Food Bank Council of America.
-- Keeping Food on the Table: Provide an additional $12.5 million (GF/GP) supplemental for food pantry programs to help those facing food insecurity.
