Brush Chipping Service for Storm Clean-Up Begins Sept 21st

Ypsilanti Township has contracted with a chipping service to handle the severe storm brush pick-up. As they begin clearing the brush, there are some guidelines that must be followed to ensure that this will move as quickly as possible.

The guidelines are as follows:
- All brush must be placed curbside by Sunday, September 20th
Place cut ends facing the road; please do not to block sidewalks or bike paths
- Do not block brush pile
- No limbs larger than 12 inches in diameter will be picked up
- Brush Chipping Service will start on Monday, September 21st

Once a street has been cleared, it is complete. The chipper truck will not return once the street is finished and will move on the next street. After that, it will be the homeowner's responsibility to remove and bundle Yard Waste for Waste Management to pick up or be dropped off at the Compost Site (2600 E. Clark Rd.)

Limbs between 12 - 24 inches in diameter can be dropped off at the Compost Site for a fee. Limbs larger than 24 inches will not be accepted at the Compost Site as our machine cannot process this large of material.

If you have questions, please contact the Residential Services Department at [email protected] or 734.544.4000 (ext 4).

Michigan PFAS Awareness Week

September 21 - 25, 2026

In the spring of 2026, Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared September 21-25, 2026 as PFAS Awareness Week. Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large group of human-made chemicals that were first used in the 1940s for industry and manufacturing, are linked to harmful human health effects, and have been found in Michigan's water, soil, air, fish, wildlife, and people.

During this week, everyone in Michigan is urged to take steps to reduce their exposure to PFAS through actions such as sampling their private drinking water well to see if it is impacted by PFAS, checking the Eat Safe Fish guides before consuming locally caught fish, avoiding foam on surface water, and reducing the use of consumer products that can contain PFAS.

PFAS Awareness Week was an idea that came directly from the Citizens Advisory Workgroup, made up of Michigan citizens impacted by PFAS.

Events are planned in Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Muskegon, East Lansing, Mt. Pleasant, Traverse City, Allendale, and Oscoda.
