It’s a beautiful day to be a Frog Island Parking Lot because you’re getting a TOTAL MAKEOVER!!!

Like any good makeover, there’s going to be a little construction chaos along the way. Starting today, the sidewalk on the south end of the parking lot will be closed for approximately one month.

The concrete work in the plaza will also bring some temporary closures and access changes around the Freighthouse.

And that’s not all. There will be temporary closures on Rice Street in the future as construction continues.

We know a makeover comes with a little inconvenience, but there’s a lot of work happening to transform the Frog Island parking lot, and when it’s all done, it’s going to be STUNNIN.

9/10/2026

On 9/9/2026, at approximately 3:55 pm, the Ypsilanti Police Department responded to a complaint of stabbing that occurred in the 600 block of Martin Pl near the wooded area.

Once on scene, officers located a male subject who had suffered a stab wound to the chest area.

Medical personnel were summoned to the scene and conveyed the male subject to a local area hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

This is an active and open investigation, and we will have no further comment at this time.

Storm Cleanup Update:

Following the recent storm, the City is giving residents additional time to clean up storm debris before enforcement begins.

Please remember that the City’s regular yard waste rules still apply to curbside collection. Yard waste includes leaves, grass clippings, garden material, and bundled or contained branches no more than 4 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length. Yard waste should be placed in brown paper compost bags or a labeled trash can with handles.

Do not put dirt, sod, rocks, plastic bags, rubbish, recyclables, or invasive plants out with yard waste.

Residents can also get a pass from City Hall to use the Ypsilanti Township Compost Site, located at 2600 E. Clark Road, for eligible storm debris.

Need help after the storms? DTE is in the YDL-Whittaker lobby distributing water, charging kits, and other supplies to assist those left without power. If you have medical equipment at home that needs power, DTE can also help you get access to a generator. They're here until 6pm or until supplies run out.

08/25/2026

On 8/25/2026, at approximately 6:44 pm, the Ypsilanti Police Department responded to a call about a Possible Stabbing in the 200 Blk of N. Washington.

Once on scene, Officers located a male driver occupant of a vehicle covered in blood. Officers also located a male passenger subject who appeared to have several stab wounds to his body and was also covered in blood.

Medical personnel arrived at the scene and confirmed shortly after that the male passenger was deceased.

The Ypsilanti Police Department does not believe this incident to be a random occurrence.

The male driver was treated at the local area hospital and later lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail.

This is an open investigation, so we have no further comment at this time.
