DPS recently celebrated the well-earned retirement of Julie Heighes. For nearly 27 years, Julie was a calm presence when she processed FOIA requests, managed records, dispatched, and provided Clery support. Her gentle nudge with an email reminder about payroll was always met with a smile. Her contributions to EMU cannot be measured. Enjoy this next stage. May your campsite be well-attended with a lake view.

Eastern Michigan University had the pleasure of hosting the yearly Gamers for Giving event where gamers from all over the country band together to raise money for charity. At this year's event, our very own Officer Benitez partnered with the EMU Esports team to play against CMU Esports and CMUPD in a best of 7 Rocket League exhibition match. EMU took the victory with a close series 4 games to 3!

Thanks to Central Michigan University Police Officer Chapman for assisting in liaising the match as well as Officers Roth and Szidik for their participation. Credits to EMU and CMU Esports for facilitating their respective departments and helping us directly engage with the gaming community. We look forward to next year's event and hope for more schools and their Police Departments to join us!

Today, we celebrated the longevity milestones for two DPS employees. Brandi Decker completed 10 years of service as a dispatcher. Brandi is the first first-responder. From managing 911 calls, providing life saving instructions, and coordinating police/fire/EMS services, she has demonstrated her ability to work well under intense pressure. Lieutenant Nate Stead recently completed 15 years of service. As a member of the senior leadership team, Nate oversees Patrol Operations and special event coordination. He leads with compassion and purpose. On behalf of a grateful community, thank you both for your continued service to the EMU community.
