Founded in 1884, VHC-Yountville is the largest veterans’ home in the United States, offering residential accommodations with a wealth of recreational, social, and therapeutic activities for independent living. Some 1,100 aged or disabled veterans (both men and women) or World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Desert Storm, and Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom now live at the home. Future health care needs of veterans admitted to the Yountville Home at the Residential Care level are met by on-grounds facilities for Residential Care for the Elderly (RCFE), intermediate Care, Skilled Nursing Care, and a “Memory Care Center” for residents with various forms of dementia. General acute care is provided at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, St. Helena, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in San Francisco. The Yountville Home is also a focal point for the Napa Valley Community with the 1,200 seat Lincoln Theater (home of the Napa Valley Symphony), 9-hole golf course, Recreational Vehicle (RV) park, Borman Field baseball stadium, bowling lanes, swimming pool, and a military Base Exchange branch store. All of these facilities are available for use by resident veterans at no additional cost. Additionally, the home offers services specifically for residents including a fitness center, a resident operated television station, auto hobby shop, a 35,000 volume library, creative arts center, and a multi-faith chapel.

Tom, our Home member home chef, is back once again with a splendid new meal. This time, he made a pepper steak stir fry served on of rice.

Tom began by heating a stainless steel skillet with oil and added bell peppers, onion, and garlic. Once crisp and tender, he removed the vegetables and poured soy sauce, honey, and vinegar into the pan, letting it reduce. Then, he added cubed flank steak and cooked it until done. He returned the vegetables into the pan for a final time and served the stir fry over rice.

Thank you Tom for letting us into your kitchen.

Today, on this Juneteenth, we acknowledge the past and celebrate the culture and achievements of African Americans.

Short for “June Nineteenth,” Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people were freed. This came two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States. It officially became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021.

In honor of the 251st anniversary of the U.S. Army's establishment, Flag Day, and Father's day this weekend, our Chapel hosted a barbeque in conjunction with Valley Church - Vacaville and 9 different biker groups!

It began with the raising of a 30 ft U.S. Flag right outside our entrance by CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit's 12. Then, over 75 bikers rode onto campus and paraded through our Alameda, cheered on by our residents, staff, and guests.

The bikers then drove back to the chapel to host a barbeque. Over 100 Home members enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ chicken, pasta salad, and snow cones. At the end, our residents presented each biker group with a folded U.S. Flag.

Special thanks to our chapel team, Valley Church - Vacaville, VC Ryders, Prodigals, CMA, Bikers for Christ, Veteran Riders, Patriot Guard Riders, Rouge Militia Riders, Buffalo Soldiers MC, USO's Famila, our wonderful staff, and everyone else who helped make this event happen. See you all next year!

Happy Women Veterans Day! Today, we commemorate the anniversary of the Women's Armed Service Integration Act of 1948.

Earlier this morning, we treated 18 of our female veterans to a very special lunch at Chandon USA. They were joined by Administrator Holly Holtzen, Skilled Nursing Administrator Sophear Price, and other Yountville Home staff. There, our ladies enjoyed a multicourse meal, exquisite wine, and the opportunity to socialize with each other and reflect on their service.

The Yountville Home wants to thank all of the trailblazing women who served, paving the way for others to follow. And to those who forged new paths, broke barriers, and inspired future generations of women.
