Today, I stood for some of Louisiana’s most vulnerable citizens by bringing forward HCR 67 — the “Derek’s Promise Study.”

This resolution asks the Louisiana Department of Health to study the serious gaps in acute healthcare access for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Too many families are left without answers when their loved ones face medical crises, behavioral emergencies, or hospital discharges with nowhere appropriate to go. That has to change.

This is personal for me.
And I want families across Louisiana to hear this promise clearly:

I will continue fighting for a system that treats individuals with IDD with dignity, urgency, compassion, and proper medical care — not as an afterthought.

We must build a coordinated system of care that supports families, protects vulnerable individuals, and gives providers the tools they need to truly help people in crisis.

Every life has value. Every family deserves support. And every person with IDD deserves access to safe, appropriate healthcare.

This is more than policy.
This is a promise ❤️

🚧 Great news! Youngsville and Broussard are teaming up to replace the 4-way stop at N. Larriviere and LA 92 with a new roundabout. This project will fix a major bottleneck near Southside High, showing how local cooperation improve safety and modernize our infrastructure. 🚧

The City of Broussard, Louisiana is entering into an agreement with the City of Youngsville Louisiana to construct a roundabout to replace the four-way stop at the intersection of N. Larriviere Road and Young Street (LA Highway 92). This is a well-traveled intersection, especially in the mornings for parents and students heading to and from Southside High School. The Broussard City Council voted unanimously to enter into an Intergovernmental Agreement with Youngsville at last night's council meeting. This is another example of cooperation between the two fastest growing areas of Lafayette Parish.

FIRE ALARM SCARE LAST NIGHT! Just before 9pm, the lights flickered off at Le Presbytere. It happened twice and had me wondering if Dr. and Mrs. Dupleix were finally coming to pay me a visit at their former home (smiles). Shortly after, I went into the Chapel to pray night prayer and then heard the doorbell ring, unusual at such a late hour of the night. Something was up! When I arrived at the door I saw our Youngsville Fire Department and a Church parking lot filled with fire trucks. My heart sank. I later learned that a breaker had malfunctioned on Bonin Street, causing the commotion and triggering the fire alarm in the New Church. Within minutes the Church was surrounded by the fire teams of Youngsville, Milton, and Broussard. I was impressed with the professional manner of the fire teams and their thorough search of the New Church. They were determined not to leave until the property was properly assessed. I wanted to publicly acknowledge the good work I witnessed last night. We are fortunate to live in a City of genuine caring people who take such good care of us. Thanks again to our local Fire Departments. When you see them, let them know the same. Fr. Russo
