U.S. Route 6 (US 6) in Pennsylvania spans over 400 miles across the state’s northern tier, from the Ohio border near Pymatuning Reservoir to the Delaware River at Matamoras. This route is renowned for its scenic beauty, traversing rolling hills, lush forests, and charming small towns. National Geographic has recognized it as one of America’s most scenic drives .

Historically, US 6 was designated in 1926 and was originally known as the Roosevelt Highway. In 1948, Pennsylvania officially named its portion the Grand Army of the Republic Highway to honor Union Civil War veterans .

The route offers access to numerous attractions, including Allegheny National Forest, Kinzua Bridge State Park, Pine Creek Gorge (often referred to as the “Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania”), and the Pocono Mountains. Towns like Erie, Warren, Wellsboro, Honesdale, and Milford provide cultural and historical experiences along the way .

US 6 remains a vital corridor for both transportation and tourism, preserving its historical significance while offering travelers a picturesque journey through Pennsylvania’s diverse landscapes.
