America Makes and the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) are proud to announce the winners of a recent project call funded by the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering, Manufacturing Technology Office (OSW ManTech), worth a total of $2M. The objective of the project call, Artificial Intelligence for Material Allowables in Additive Manufacturing (AIM-4AM), is to develop an AI-driven framework to identify and quantify risk in the current material allowables approach for 17-4PH stainless steel (H1025) produced by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF).

The outcome will enable faster, more cost-effective qualification and certification of AM materials, support agile decision-making for production parts, and accelerate adoption in defense and commercial applications.

America Makes’ Technology Director, Brandon Ribic, recently participated in NIST’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Manufacturing Workshop. Brandon served as a panelist for the session titled AI for Manufacturing: Cross‑Sector Perspectives on Progress, Barriers, and Priorities, where he shared insights on the evolving role of AI in the manufacturing ecosystem.

This panel engagement reflects America Makes’ dedication to driving meaningful collaboration and accelerating the integration of AI across the manufacturing sector.

He was joined by fellow panelists Jonathan Wise of CESMII, Penny Chen of Yokogawa, and Alex Rudin of MITRE. The discussion was moderated by Paul Witherell.
