This Pride Month, we proudly stand with our LGBTQIA+ community and recognize the importance of mental health, acceptance, and belonging.

For many LGBTQIA+ individuals, the journey to live authentically can come with unique challenges, including discrimination, isolation, and barriers to care. That's why creating supportive, affirming communities matters. When people feel seen, respected, and valued for who they are, healing and hope can thrive.

At the Mahoning County Mental Health & Recovery Board, we believe everyone deserves access to compassionate mental health support and a community that embraces them exactly as they are. This month, and every month, we celebrate the courage, resilience, and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals throughout our community.

Let's continue to lead with kindness, listen without judgment, and create spaces where everyone feels safe to be themselves.

This Men's Mental Health Month, check in on the men in your life.
A simple conversation, text message, or "How are you really doing?" can make a bigger difference than you realize. Too often, men feel pressure to carry their struggles alone, but mental health challenges don't have to be faced in silence.💙

Let's remind the fathers, brothers, sons, husbands, friends, coworkers, and neighbors in our lives that it's okay to talk, it's okay to ask for help, and it's okay to not be okay.

If you or a loved one are struggling or experiencing a mental health crisis, help is available 24/7. Call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

You are not alone. Support is just one conversation away.

A recent 21 News article highlights the power of QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), a su***de prevention training that equips everyday people with the skills to recognize warning signs, start a conversation, and connect someone to help. Just as CPR helps during a physical emergency, QPR can help someone experiencing a mental health crisis until professional support is available.

In the article, MCMHRB Executive Director Duane Piccirilli emphasizes a message we all need to hear: the most important thing you can do is start the conversation and remind someone they are not alone. Contrary to a common myth, asking someone if they are thinking about su***de does not put the idea in their head—it can open the door to lifesaving support.

The Mahoning County Mental Health & Recovery Board and Prevention Works have worked together for years to bring free QPR training to our community because su***de prevention is everyone's responsibility. Whether you're a parent, teacher, coworker, friend, or neighbor, you can learn the skills to make a difference.

Burnout isn't just about being tired—it's about carrying too much for too long.

A recent study from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) found that more than half of employees reported feeling burned out at work in the past year. Even more concerning, many reported that their mental health affected their productivity, and some even considered leaving their jobs because of it.

In a recent 21 News article, MCMHRB Executive Director Duane Piccirilli and Board President Dr. Chelsey Zoldan discuss the importance of treating mental health with the same urgency and compassion as physical health. They also highlight how workplace support, employee wellness resources, self-care, and reducing stigma can make a meaningful difference for workers across all professions.

Mental health impacts every part of our lives—including the workplace. When we create environments where people feel supported, valued, and encouraged to seek help, everyone benefits.

Men's mental health matters—and too often, the struggle stays hidden.💙

A recent 21 News Cover Story highlights an important reality facing our communities: men, particularly those between the ages of 30 and 69, are often less likely to seek help for mental health challenges, despite being disproportionately affected by su***de.

In the article, our Executive Director, Duane Piccirilli discusses the barriers many men face when it comes to asking for support and the importance of changing the conversation around mental health.

Seeking help is not a sign of weakness—it's a sign of strength. Whether through counseling, support groups, telehealth, or simply reaching out to someone you trust, help is available and recovery is possible.

Thank you to 21 News for shining a light on this important topic. We encourage everyone to read the full story and help break the stigma surrounding men's mental health.
