Some kind words for Boardman Township Police Department, and Officer Steve Dubos!

“Last week, I was involved in a vehicle accident while on vacation with my wife. We are from out of state, about 1,000 miles from home that day. Officer Dubos was the responding officer. After the incident we were shaken up, but Officer Dubos was very calm and concerned for our safety. His presence helped us feel safe, and throughout the entire interaction he was so helpful and kind. He even offered to help get us to a hotel while we sorted out our travel arrangements, which we both thought was above and beyond. In the days since, my wife and I have several times discussed how professional and kind Officer Dubos was and how his demeanor helped us figure out what our next steps were when we were stranded far from home. We are very grateful to him and wanted to pass along our thanks. Thank you Officer Dubos and the entire Boardman Police Department!”

PRESS RELEASE: August 31, 2026

The Boardman Township Police Department’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) executed a search warrant this morning at a residence located at 86 Ferncliff Avenue following an ongoing drug investigation. During the search, Boardman Township Police officers located and seized the following items:

• 330 grams of suspected methamphetamine
• 50 grams of suspected crack co***ne
• 36 grams of an unknown powder, suspected to be he**in, fentanyl, or co***ne
• $27,126 in U.S. currency
• One Kahr Arms 9mm pistol and ammunition
• Several items of drug paraphernalia, and money counter

At the time of the search, NAKYIA PARKER (50) was located at the residence and was found to be currently on parole through the State of Ohio. PARKER was subsequently placed into custody by the Adult Parole Authority and transported to the Mahoning County Jail.

Additional criminal charges related to today’s search are anticipated following laboratory analysis of the seized items

Tomorrow is the first day back to school for Boardman Spartan Students. The Boardman Police Department would like to wish all students, teachers, bus drivers, and school staff a safe and successful school year!

Please see the graphic of when drivers are required to stop for a school bus with its flashing red lights loading/unloading students. Take note that Glenwood Ave is now a 3 lane road and drivers traveling in both directions must stop for a school bus stopped in Glenwood Ave. with its red flashing lights while loading/unloading students.

Be mindful of school zones during their active times as students are walking to and from school.

At tonight’s Boardman Township Trustee’s meeting, 2 new police officers were sworn into the Boardman Police Department. Officer Austin Householder comes to the Boardman Police Department with previous experience with the Austintown Police Department. Officer Luke Griguolo is a recent graduate of the police academy and both are currently in the field training program.

On July 11th, 2026 at 7:20 pm Boardman Township Police Department responded to simultaneous reports of a shooting at the intersection of Southern Boulevard and Meadowbrook Avenue as well as a traffic crash at the intersection of Market Street and Meadowbrook in Boardman. The initial investigation revealed that a vehicle, occupied by two females in their early twenties as well as two children under the age of 5, were stopped at the red light at Southern Boulevard and Meadowbrook. An occupant of a black in color Chevy Cruz fired at least 10 rounds towards the victim’s vehicle, injuring both adult occupants. Immediately after the shooting the vehicle occupied by the victims fled the area, traveling westbound on Meadowbrook. While attempting to flee, the victim’s vehicle was involved in a traffic crash at Market Street and Meadowbrook, where the victim’s vehicle rolled over.

Boardman Police Department’s investigation led to the identification of the shooter as 35-year-old Eugene Thompkins from Youngstown, Ohio. Warrants have been issued for Thompkins’ arrest for two counts of Attempted Murder, four counts of Felonious Assault and one count of Improperly Discharging Firearm at or into a Habitation. The investigation continues of other involved individuals who were in the vehicle with Tompkins at the time of the shooting.

Eugene Tompkins (picture attached) should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Thompkins’ whereabouts, or other information related to the incident, should immediately contact the Boardman Police Department at (330)726-4144.

This affects Boardman Police Department, Goshen Police Department, Coitsville Police Department, Loweville Police Department, New Middletown Police Department, Mill Creek Park Police Department, and Washingtonville Police Department.

Please follow Boardman Township, Ohio for updates regarding the July 5th storm clean up.

STORM UPDATE Yesterday, Boardman Township, along with our neighboring communities, experienced a devastating severe weather event. First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the residents of Mahoning County who have been impacted by this catastrophic storm.

Immediately following the storm, every Boardman Township department worked together to ensure the safety of our residents. Our Fire Department, Police Department, and Road Department have been working around the clock to clear debris, reopen roadways, direct traffic, and respond to emergency needs. In addition, Township officials have been in direct communication with local, state, and federal leaders to advocate for disaster relief resources and support for our community. We also received a call from Governor Dewine asking what the State could do to help.

This morning, Township Administrator Mark Ragozine and Fire Chief Mark Pitzer met with the Emergency Management Agency to coordinate recovery efforts and establish a comprehensive plan for Boardman Township's recovery.

Further, starting tomorrow the Boardman Road Department will be out with a woodchipper to clean up debris from residents’ homes. We ask that any branches or tree debris be placed in the right of way for easy access for the Road Department to clear. We will be conducting this cleanup over the next several days.

As we move forward, we remain committed to helping our residents in every way possible. Boardman Township is a community defined by resilience, compassion, and strength. Together, we will continue to support one another, rebuild, and emerge stronger from this difficult time.

Boardman Township Emergency Dispatch ten digit non-emergency phone lines (through Armstrong) are currently down. 911 lines for emergency calls are working.

We are working to correct the problem. Our cell phone back up (330-610-2082) is available and can be used for non-emergency calls.

Based upon continuing safety service efforts to recover from the storm please only contact (emergency or non-emergency) Dispatch if needed.

Do not contact Dispatch to ask when power is expected to be restored to your particular area. We do not have that information. We have worked to notify Ohio Edison of every downed wire we are aware of. We are having officers confirm those locations now.

Mahoning County and Boardman Township road crews are out now working to clear roadways. However, each location needs to be deemed safe by Ohio Edison before the crews can proceed. Do not approach any downed wires and under no circumstances attempt to move or bypass any barriers or saftey markings at these locations.

Residents all over Boardman are reporting downed trees, power lines, flooding, and hazardous conditions around Boardman.

Boardman Police and Fire Departments are out responding to these calls and emergencies as they come in.

Things to remember:

⚠️ Do not drive through high water
⚠️ Do not drive over down lines
⚠️ Do not drive over or around downed trees in the roadway
🚦If traffic signals are not working at an intersection, treat it as a four-way stop

If you must go out, use extreme caution.
