The Young Democrats of America condemn the Department of Justice’s failure to fully release the Jeffrey Epstein files as required by law.
In November, Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, legislation that was demanded by the American public and was supported on a bipartisan basis. That bill was signed into law and explicitly required the Department of Justice to release all unclassified Epstein-related documents by today.
Today, the Department of Justice failed to meet this deadline, and failed to provide Congress with a detailed accounting of what documents were released, what materials were withheld, what redactions were made, and why, as explicitly required under the law.
The White House and the Department of Justice continue to hide behind a false narrative of “protecting victims’ identities” to justify noncompliance. Protecting survivors is both essential and non-negotiable; however, that responsibility does not excuse ignoring the law, withholding unclassified materials, or concealing the scope of what is being kept from the public. These goals are not mutually exclusive.
Today’s inactions make it clear that the White House and the Department of Justice are failing to carry out the will of the people. No individual, no administration, and no federal agency is above the law. Authoritarianism is wreaking havoc on this country. We cannot keep hoping that President Trump and his administration will make the correct or lawful choices, we must demand it.
The Young Democrats of America call on the Department of Justice to immediately comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, release all remaining unclassified documents without delay, and provide Congress and the public with a full accounting of what has been withheld and why. Anything less is a betrayal of public trust and a dangerous erosion of democratic accountability.
