On Thursday, Mahoning County Commissioners took time to recognize World Su***de Prevention Day.” They heard from Duane Piccirilli of the Mental Health and Recovery Board, Ryan Tekac of Mahoning County Public Health and Joe Rossi with Dimension Home of Eastern Ohio. To date, there have been 24 suicides in Mahoning County, with two-thirds of them involving older men. A special Su***de Review Board studies each case, looking for possible trends that can be addressed. They urge anyone in need, or who knows a family member or friend in crisis to contact Help Hotline/211 or the national crisis Hotline at 988.

This week, a Mahoning County Grand Jury indicted Anthony McDaniel on one count of Murder and one count of Arson. McDaniel is charged with an October 2025 murder that occurred on Youngstown's south side.

The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in obtaining cell phone or other video recordings capturing all or part of the incident that occurred Sunday afternoon at the County Democrat Party tent on the Canfield Fairgrounds. Anyone who recorded either video or still photos of the incident involving Dr. Amy Acton and/or Patrick Havas is urged to contact Chief Deputy Jeff Allen at 330-480-5012

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene joined County Commissioners Saturday to help judge a cooking contest among 4H students. The students were finalists from 11 who entered the annual program. The kids took a list of ingredients and prepared their own dishes for the Sheriff and Commissioners Geno DiFabio and Anthony Traficanti to sample. Commissioner Carol Righetti and Chef Jeff Chrystal provided help to the student chefs. in the end, Audrey Taranto of Canfield was awarded First Place and took home a $400 prize.
